Marilyn Masterson and Suddenly Its Time Ready for World

Ken and Marilyn Masterson of Masterson Farms have been on the go this summer show season. With all of the activity at their farm and with the great success of RL Best Of Sudden, there has been little downtime for the couple. Marilyn Masterson has been busy qualifying for the Select Amateur World Show with her mare, Suddenly Its Time (Suzie).

Last week, Ken and Marilyn celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary at the NSBA World Show–not surprising to any couples that show horses. Also, Marilyn told us that her mare, Suzie, recently graced the June cover of Horse & Rider magazine which was exciting news.

“I would really like to thank Ken for picking Suzie–he thought she was the one after the first lap–and Amanda Ringer at our farm for all of her assistance, and, of course, Greg Wheat has done his usual outstanding work with Suzie. Greg is a true horseman and a great person to learn from…I think of him like a brother and he is always there when I have questions or need advice. He has taught me so much, and I am always confident going into the show pen when he is there to help me.”

Due to an injury last year, Marilyn was unable to show the now five year-old bay mare fondly known as, “The Princess”. However, this year, the team is back and stronger than ever. This duo had a late start qualifying for the AQHA Select Amateur World Show, but they ended up with circuit championships in the Select Amateur Western Pleasure at several shows this year including the Region 9 Championships, and the Lucky 7. The duo were also the unanimous winners in the Select Amateur Western Pleasure at the Show Your Colors AQHA show held right before the NSBA World Show in Tulsa. At the NSBA World, the team was the Reserve Champions in the Select Amateur Western Pleasure and ended up third in the 4 to 6 Year-Old BCF Western Pleasure Class.

Suddenly Its Time is by Masterson’s stallion, RL Best Of Sudden and out of Huntin Tee Time. Ken and Marilyn purchased the now five year-old bay mare from Frank and Linda Berris of Sparta, Michigan in 2012 at the Reichert Celebration right before she won the Congress Limited Three Year-Old Western Pleasure with Mitch Leckey in the saddle.

“Suzie has the best personality and loves attention,” Marilyn says about her spoiled teammate. “She is always willing and tries her hardest and wants people to notice her. I look forward to showing her in Amarillo, and we will try to go out there and give it our best shot.”

Look out for this team this coming week in Amarillo, and we wish them the best of luck!
