New Classes Added and Outside Horses Allowed at AQHA World Show

Two, all-new Level 1 (formerly known as Green) stakes classes have been added as ancillary classes to the 2014 AQHA World Show schedule. A $5,000-added Level 1 western pleasure class is slated for Tuesday, November 18, and a $5,000-added Level 1 hunter under saddle class will be offered Friday, November 21.

“We are very excited to offer these stakes classes for this group of exhibitors,” said AQHA President Johnny Trotter. “The show council has heard from many trainers with Level 1 horses in western pleasure and hunter under saddle, who asked for these ancillary classes. We were able to schedule them and are looking forward to having them as part of the AQHA World Show.”

The classes, sponsored by Highpoint Performance Horses of Pilot Point, Texas, Hot Ones Only and Hubba Hubba Huntin, will be held in the Performance Arena at State Fair Park. Awards will be presented through 10th place.

The deadline to enter either stakes class is 5 p.m. Saturday, November 15, and the cost to enter is $250 each with 75 percent of entry fees (plus added money) as payout. If your stakes entry is received at AQHA by September 15, your stakes horse(s) can be stalled with your AQHA World Show entries. However, stakes entries received after September 15 will be stalled separately and may not be in the same barn.

NEW OWNER/BREEDER/EXHIBITOR HALTER CLASSES ADDED TO WORLD SHOW

In addition to the two new Level 1 classes, the World Conformation Horse Association is offering three new WCHA owner-breeder-exhibitor conformation halter classes at the AQHA World Championship Show this year. The winners of these classes will be recognized as WCHA world champions.

“We are pleased to announce that WCHA and AQHA have joined to make these classes possible,” said WCHA President Tim Finkenbinder. “Much time and effort has been spent by both WCHA and AQHA to help grow and improve the halter horse industry, and we think the owner-breeder is a significant contributor to the growth of the industry and the breed registry’s success, worthy of significant recognition.”

The three classes offered will be owner-breeder-exhibitor weanling geldings on Thursday, November 20; weanling colts on Friday, November 21; and weanling fillies on Saturday, November 22. The deadline to enter any of the OBE classes is Monday, September 15.

Any offspring that are AQHA registered and sired by 2014 WCHA Futurity-enrolled stallions will be eligible to enter. The cost to enter one of the OBE classes is $500.

“The WCHA, in conjunction with AQHA, first initiated the OBE classes in 2013 at the WCHA Breeder’s Championship Futurity, to reward the breeders for their efforts and investment. The classes were an overwhelming success,” said WCHA Futurity Chairman and AQHA Professional Horseman Luke Castle.

“OUTSIDE” HORSES ALLOWED STALLS AT AQHA WORLD SHOW

In addition to exciting new classes at the AQHA World Show, AQHA is also relaxing a world show rule and will allow horses – on a space-available basis – that are not entered in the show to be stalled on the grounds.

The provision applies to the Built Ford Tough AQHYA and AQHA world championship shows only (the Adequan Select World Championship Show is not included). The stall fee for horses brought on the grounds that are not entered is a flat fee of $200. A special stall request form will be available for owners and exhibitors bringing additional horses.

“Allowing horses not entered in the show to get a stall if one is available is a great benefit to our trainers,” said AQHA Executive Director of Shows and Judges Pete Kyle. “For a variety of reasons, people may have additional horses. If we are able to accommodate them, it is a great convenience for people attending the world shows.”

The AQHA World Show is the world’s largest single-breed championship show and annually offers more than $2 million in cash and awards. The show features more than 2,000 horses and nearly 1,500 exhibitors vying for one of nearly 100 prestigious world champion titles.
