NSBA Announces Scholarship Winners

The National Snaffle Bit Association Foundation has announced a trio of young ladies – Bailey Anderson, Rebecca Anderson and Mary Huddleston – have each earned $1,000 scholarships through the organization.

Bailey Anderson, of Millsap, Texas, has a goal to become an actuary. A recent graduate of All Saints Episcopal School in the honors program, Bailey will attend the University of Georgia this fall.

An active horse show exhibitors in NSBA and AQHA competition, Bailey serves as the NSBA Youth president-elect. She has also served as president, vice president and board member for the Texas Quarter Horse Youth Association.

“I am honored to receive the NSBA Foundation scholarship as it will assist me in pursuing my education at the University of Georgia. NSBA is to be commended for investing in the future of their youth members,” she said.

Rebecca Anderson, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, graduated first in her class from Gothenburg High School. She will pursue a medical degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, majoring in biochemistry and pre-medicine.

As an active member of the Nebraska Quarter Horse Youth Association and the Iowa Quarter Horse Youth Association, Rebecca has also been an NSBA youth member for the past three years. This active youth exhibitor, FFA and 4-H member, and volunteer is also a multiple Youth Showmanship champion.

“The horse community and the lessons I have learned have molded me into who I am today; therefore I am appreciative for that as well as assisting me in furthering my education,” Rebecca noted.

Farmville, Virginia native Mary Huddleston recently graduated with an advanced studies diploma from Cumberland High School and earned an associate degree from Southside Virginia Community College. She will attend Virginia Polytechnic University and plans to become an equine veterinarian.

An athlete and volunteer, Mary served as AQHYA Region Five national director as well as first vice president of the Virginal Quarter Horse Youth Association. With VQHYA, she also served as fundraising committee chair and community service committee chair.

“I am very excited that I have received an NSBA scholarship,” Mary said. “My love of horses and leadership in the equine industry has truly paid off. Thank you to the NSBA Foundation’s Scholarship Committee for funding a portion of my education at Virginia Tech!”

Applications for the 2015 NSBA Foundation Scholarships will be due February 1, 2015.
