June 1, 2008 was the inaugural publish date of GoMag, and on that day, the first digital magazine of its kind in our industry was born. Today, we are extremely proud to publish our 73rd issue. The June cover of GoMag features multiple AQHYA World and Congress Champion Travis Sancken of Ingleside, Illinois. The 19 year-old is competing in his last year of youth with his horses, Zippos Hot Jet (George), Zippo Lightair (Cole) and Sheza Secret Star (Star).
“Knowing this is my last year in youth has really been tough for me,” says Sancken, who will start college soon with a major in business management. “I never thought the day would come where it would be my last year to show at the Youth World. This year, my horses and I will try to make it one to remember.”
Sancken will be competing in the Youth Trail with Cole and George while he will try to add another halter world championship buckle to his collection with Star in the Yearling Mares. Sancken is already a four-time AQHYA World Champion in the halter and two-time Congress winner in the trail.
“Some of the things I will remember most about my youth career will be the success and lessons learned from Tommy Sheets and Randy Jacobs. Both are great trainers and men to look up to for examples,” Sancken recollects. “Also, Zippos Hot Jet (featured on the cover) and I have a special relationship and still to this day, I have never found a horse that I get along with any better than him. We won the trail at our first show, the Congress, so I guess you could say we are meant to be together.”
Travis says he would like to thank his trainer, Tommy Sheets for developing him into the rider he is today. “He has taught me everything from how to clean a stall to how to get one ready to step in the ring. I also want to thank Randy Jacobs for sticking by our side even when we didn’t have horses with him, and last of all, my family. I would be nowhere without their support.”
