When Your Goal Is A Blue Ribbon, Don’t Compromise On Quality

A bad tail can be a huge distraction from the overall picture you present at the horse show. Tanna Suits of Blue Ribbon Tails has been creating the highest quality tails for over 10 years. The Rantoul, Illinois native double majored in Equine Science and did the Ag Transfer Program at Black Hawk College-East. During one of her classes, her instructor had a lady come in to the class that made tails for a local trainer.

“I thought this would be a great opportunity to expand on and have been doing it ever since,” Suits told GoHorseShow. “I have been showing horses since I was little and thought this is something I could do to help pay for my show expenses. I went off her basic fundamentals and perfected my own design.”

ILPHA Youth Advisor, Julie Bushue, shared her thoughts about Tanna’s tails. “I have known Tanna Suits for a couple of years now. I have seen the marvelous work she does and heard all the praises of her clients. But more importantly, I have witnessed the lengths she will go to in order to achieve the best results for her clients,” Bushue states. “She really goes above and beyond. Being a horse person herself, she can relate to her clients’ needs on a more personal level.”

Bushue adds, “Tanna has always been very supportive of our Illinois Junior Paint Horse Club, donating to raffles and auctions. She is not only a talented business owner but a genuine horse-loving, caring individual.”

GoHorseShow sat down with Tanna to find out more about her business.

Q: Hi Tanna! Thanks for sitting down with us. So tell us more about your tails. What are your current costs for tails?
A: The cost varies upon the color, weight and length. I have a wide assortment of color swatches to color match horses in person or customers can send me a small swatch to make sure their horse gets that perfect match. I also do custom colored tails based on a per customer need. I have competitive pricing but my quality sets me apart from the rest. All my tails are made from 100% horse hair.

Q: What sets your company apart from the rest of the competition?
A: Quality and design. The head of my tails are slender in design so there isn’t the extra bulk at the top of the tail that might stick out if the horse has a thinner tail. I offer several different attachment styles to fit my customer’s needs. I do travel on a by need basis to customers barns if there are several horses to swatch for new tails. I also accept tails in for repair. Each tail takes time to construct, but I love what I do so it is worth it.

Q: Where are you located and will you be attending any shows this season?
A: I am from Rantoul, Illinois. I show my gelding on the AQHA circuits and I am almost always at Gordyville or can swing out since I live so close. I have twin three year-old boys which keeps me from traveling longer distances to some of the bigger shows. I plan to attend more Illinois and Indiana shows this summer and always have my color swatches with me!

Q: Are you currently running any specials?
A: I offer free standard shipping and free gifts with new purchase. Specials vary month by month.
