Now’s the time to make plans for the 2014 APHA Convention and Membership Meeting. I’m looking forward to seeing you all. I expect the convention to be one of APHA’s largest if the calls I’ve received in the last few weeks are any indication. Members who have never been to convention or who haven’t attended in many years have already let me know they’ll be there. I hope that means you as well.
By attending, you’ll have a chance to help APHA make critical decisions for the future, learn more about how the association works and help develop your own local Paint Horse organizations. We’ll all grow by helping each other.
More specifically you’ll hear from authorities on equine law, learn firsthand the ins and outs of APHA?s show processing system and hear from colleges in show management and their ideas for putting on memorable shows. For early arrivals we have a special “Game Plan” symposium scheduled for 1-6 p.m. on Friday, February 21. Straight from the pages of the Paint Horse Journal and its popular 12-part series that breaks down more than a dozen horse show events from both a judge and trainer’s points of view, the Game Plan is an afternoon session with APHA Director of Judges Dave Dellin and Judge Committee Chairman Dave Denniston. They will review western pleasure, hunter under saddle, western riding, trail, horsemanship and halter in a half-day seminar designed specifically for exhibitors.
If you are not assigned to a standing committee you will have the opportunity to visit these meetings on Sunday, February 23 in the afternoon. All standing committee meetings are open to members except for the Judge?s Committee which will have an open meeting from 1:30 ? 2:15 pm only.
