Rock Star’s NCQHA District V Spring Show was a Huge Hit

Rock Star Horse Show’s NCQHA District V Spring Show was just held May 10th through the 12th in Williamston, North Carolina. The exhibitors loved the $315.00 flat fee that included one stall and unlimited AQHA classes/divisions for one horse. Also lots of great prizes were awarded randomly from their sponsors Tag Heuer, American Express and Tiffany & Co.

“It was a really nice show,” says trainer, Kristy Starnes of Summerton, South Carolina. “There was great weather and the staff was very friendly. It was a very nice change to have a slot class actually have a set time to start that was stuck by–made planning for the show time so much less stressful.”

Non-Pro Liz Hay agreed, “We are very fortunate to have a such a wonderful facility, great competition and the Rock Star Horse Show committee that has put a lot of time and money into promoting shows on the East Coast. The $25,000 Western Pleasure slot class was a great class with top notch pleasure horses.”

Their two signature classes–the $25,000 added NSBA Green Western Pleasure and $10,000 added NSBA Green Hunter Saddle were hugely successful. The total payout for the western pleasure slot class was $36,192.50 and the hunter under saddle class totaled $11,650.

Jay Starnes and Zip By Machine (GQ) and Brian Cox and The Best Martini (Martin) tied to win the slot class. Jay and Brian each split the winnings and received $12,667.38 each. However, Jay came away with the awards due to winning the tie-breaker.

This was back-to-back wins for Jay Starnes and GQ who are just off winning the Hylton Maiden Classic a few weeks ago. The 2010 bay stallion is by A Good Machine and out of Zip Zipa Rageous.

“He is a really good show horse and seems to really like his job,” says Starnes about his mount, GQ. “He is a real fun horse to show. He keeps a great top line and really looks through the bridle well creating a nice profile. Owner, Ray Burkhart breeds some nice horses that he sends to us.”

The top four winners in the western pleasure class were Jay Starnes, Brian Cox, Donnie Recchiuti, and Shane Pope. The top two winners in the hunter under saddle slot class were Tami Thurston and Katy Jo Zuidema. Thurston showed Hes Gota Lota Appeal or better known as Merlin to the win the hunt seat class. “He’s a real sweetheart and such a natural. He’s one of the easiest horses I’ve ever had to prepare to show. It’s been a real joy to have him in the barn,” Thurston told GoHorseShow.

The Novice Horse Classes were open to horses of any breed in at least their three year-old year, with no maximum age limit. Eligible horses must not have earned 10 or more total points in any combination of breed associations. Horse may not have earned $1,000 or more prior to 1/1/2013. All winnings from any Association or sanctioning body including but not limited to incentive fund payments, stakes payouts, and futurity earnings are to be calculated in this total.
