Top NCEA Horses Honored

The top horses in National Collegiate Equestrian Association competition have been honored for their achievements in the show pen. The top 10 horses were selected from each of the four events that the NCEA competes in – reining, horsemanship, equitation on the flat and equitation over fences.

Of the American Quarter Horse horsemanship horses that were honored, two shared the same breeder: Ernest and Jacqueline Bezley of Clements, California. The two horses, Acoosamatic and Missacoosa, are by the Bezleys’ stallion Acoosa (Coosa-Freeway Lady by Freeway Fox). Among his many accomplishments, Acoosamatic won world championships in Select and amateur performance halter geldings in 2008.

  • Zipper Caper, or “Caper,” (2000 sorrel gelding, Quincys Zipper-Docs Cute Caper by Docs Go Diamond), bred by Johnny and Lisa Lee of Royston, Georgia; owned by Kelly Wietsma of Arkmonk, New York; loaned to the University of South Carolina of Columbia, South Carolina
  • Chocolatemasterpiece, or “Moose,” (1998 brown gelding, Chips Hot Chocolate-Torsion’s Dawn (TB) by Torsion), bred by Bobbie Parker of Somerville, Tennessee; owned by Oklahoma State University Athletics; donated by the Zillner Family of Overland Park, Kansas
  • Acoosamatic, or “Matt,” (1996 red dun gelding, Acoosa-Chicks Darlene by Chickalejos), bred by Ernest and Jacqueline Bezley of Clements, California; owned by Renee Howes of Prescott, Arizona; loaned to Texas Christian University of Fort Worth, Texas
  • Missacoosa, or “Dolly,” (1997 red dun mare, Acoosa-Northern Chant by North Slope), bred by Ernest and Jacqueline Bezley; owned by Janice Sutherland of Orangevale, California; loaned to Fresno State University of Fresno, California
