TCU Honored by Big 12 Saturday

FORT WORTH, Texas – Four TCU equestrian student-athletes received All-Big 12 recognition Saturday with sophomore Demi Stiegler earning Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Year and senior Alexie Estrada being named Co-Horsemanship Rider of the Year.

Fellow senior Haley Jacobi rounded out the Horned Frogs’ major award winners by being named Big 12 Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year Saturday.

Stiegler was named Big 12 Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Year after compiling an 11-1-2 overall record on the season. The California native, who earned two MOP’s, went 5-1 in conference play during the regular season.

“I’m so incredibly excited for Demi Stiegler,” said Hunt Seat head coach Logan Fiorentino. “She works so hard and has had a great season. To have her recognized as the best Equitation on the Flat rider in this conference is such an honor. The Big 12 has a lot of talent, so its a huge accomplishment for her to be honored with that award.”

Estrada, who earned NCEA All-America recognition a year ago, shared conference honors with Oklahoma State’s Katy Krshka. The senior heads to nationals with an 8-4-2 mark overall. She went 5-1-1 in league play this season. Earlier this week, Estrada was also named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Equestrian Team.

“Alexie Estrada has had another amazing year and I’m so proud of her. She deserves to be recognized for her talent and hard work,” said Western Head Coach Kindel Walter. “I’m also really pleased that Alexi Child and Kolby Simonson earned All-Big 12 in Reining. They have been exceptional this season as well.”

Other highlights included Jacobi being named Big 12 Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year Saturday with Oklahoma State’s Jenna Blumer. Jacobi, a marketing and supply chain management major, went 3-1 in competition at the conference championship this past weekend, which brought her season win total to 12 victories between Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, respectively.
