COLUMBIA, S.C. – After winning the inaugural SEC Championship on Saturday, South Carolina made the biggest week-to-week jump by any newly No. 1 ranked team in the history of the NCEA coaches poll, as the Gamecocks moved up five spots to take over the top spot in the final poll of the season.
SEC Champs Jump Five Spots to No. 1 in Final Coaches Poll
South Carolina received three first-place votes, followed by Georgia and Auburn with two each, and Big-12 champion Oklahoma State with one.
It marks the second time this season that the equestrian team has held the No. 1 ranking this season. The Gamecocks previously held the top spot in the coaches poll from Nov. 14 until Feb. 6.
The Gamecocks return to action April 18-20 for the NCEA National Championships in Waco, Texas. South Carolina’s Hunt Seat team earned the No. 2 seed at nationals, while the Gamecocks’ Western squad is the No. 5 seed.
