SPRINGTOWN, Texas – No. 8 TCU claimed two MOP accolades Saturday afternoon en route to a dominating 14-6 conference victory over No. 4 Kansas State at Turning Point Ranch.
With the win, the Horned Frogs, who improved to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in league play, outscored the Wildcats, 1,438.5-1,407.5. On the day, Kolby Simonson and Katelyn Gray each earned MOP accolades Saturday, while the Frogs simply crushed K-State in Western, claiming a 9-1 decision. In all, TCU outscored the Wildcats in the event, 716.5-701.5. The Frogs moved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 action in Western.
The Purple and White made quick work of Kansas State in Horsemanship Saturday, sweeping the event, 5-0. Gray led the Frogs, earning MOP honors with a 74-71.5 victory over Chayna DeNicolo. Samantha Bayer and Calli Rouse were also victorious in the event, defeating Amelia Crites and Hannah Ribera, respectively. Senior Alexi Estrada claimed a point for TCU in Horsemanship, downing Rachel Wetherell, 74-72.5. With the win, Estrada posted her seventh win this season. Finally, Erin Gillette rounded out the Frog scoring, defeating Kelly Bovaird. The freshman from Palos Verdes, Calif., is now 5-3 overall.
In Reining, Simonson carried the Frogs, downing Jordan Cox, 71-68, to claim her first MOP accolade of the season. Chantz Stewart, Alexi Child and Bayer continued TCU winning ways in the event to give TCU a 4-1 victory.
On the Hunt Seat side, the Horned Frogs posted a 5-5 draw, but moved to 6-3 overall by outscoring K-State, 722-716. TCU claimed a 3-2 victory in Equitation on the Flat Saturday. Demi Stiegler was once again victorious, upending Larissa Laffey. With the win, Stiegler improved her record to 8-1 overall, including 7-1 in league play. Kaitlin Perry and Nikki Diamantis also scored victories over Kali Yates and Madison Wayda, respectively.
Stiegler and Perry were just as dominate in Equitaton over Fences Saturday. Stiegler downed Cat Avolese, 77-67, while Perry took down Wayda, 84-83.
TCU will continue action Sunday against No. 2 Auburn. Start time is set for 10:00 a.m. from Turning Point Ranch.
