COLUMBIA, S.C. – Georgia maintained its top ranking in the latest NCEA coaches poll, narrowly edging both Auburn and Oklahoma State for the top spot. Two points separate the top-three teams this week, as the Big-12 continues to climb up the coaches poll.
Auburn is now 6-1 this season after the Tigers beat South Carolina on Feb. 14, but did not jump Georgia, who is now 5-3 overall. Oklahoma State is just one point behind Auburn and two points behind Georgia this week, as the Cowgirls have won five in a row and seven of their last eight meets. Bolstering OK-State’s resume, the Cowgirls have scored 15 or more points in five straight meets and in seven of their last eight.
Kansas State moves up to No. 4 this week, thanks to South Carolina dropping its fourth meet in a row. The Gamecocks fall to fifth. Baylor and Texas A&M remain tied at sixth, as the Aggies get set to travel to Blythewood for the first time in four years to face the Gamecocks.
Texas Christian holds steady at No. 8, as the Horned Frogs have won two straight heading into this weekend’s meet against Oklahoma State. Despite picking up its first lost of the spring, SMU managed to move up this week one spot to ninth.
Also inexplicably, South Dakota State falls down one spot into a tie with New Mexico State at No. 10. The Jacks have won five meets in a row and have not suffered a loss since Oct. 20. New Mexico State moves up from being unranked, despite the fact that the Aggies have lost three in a row and have not won a meet since Oct. 13.
The collegiate coaches competing under the National Collegiate Equestrian Association umbrella initiated the national poll. The next coaches poll is scheduled to be released on March 6 at Noon ET.
