OQHA Explains Decision to Suspend 2013 Region 4 Championship

Press Release from the Ohio Quarter Horse Association

Everyone is saddened that the Region 4 Regional Championship Committee was forced to make the difficult decision to suspend the 2013 Region 4 Championship Show. The Region 4 Regional Championship Committee is made up of representatives of each affiliate within the region, which includes: Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Ontario and West Virginia.

Due to the change in the calendar, the Ohio State Fair dates moved forward and eliminated our Region 4 dates. The Committee looked at other dates at the Ohio Expo Center and there were conflicts with existing shows. The Committee wanted to be respectful of established shows that were in conflict with options for the Region 4 Championships, as many of these established shows are integral to our affiliates in numerous ways and would jeopardize their year-end awards, futurity programs, world show qualifying and financial status.

The Committee also looked at other facilities within Ohio and in other states in our region and could identify no locations/facilities that could accommodate our needs. The Committee also looked at combining the Region 4 Championship with an existing show. All of our investigations lead to dead ends, so the Committee unanimously made the difficult decision to suspend the show in 2013, but to immediately start exploring locations an d facilities for 2014.

The Committee, as well as all workers at the show, volunteer all their time with no compensation. Some judges also donate their time. The OQHA office handles all correspondence, all pre-entries and supplies all the computer systems for the show at no charge.

We hope this brief explanation gives a little more insight into how dedicated the Committee has been over the many years and explains why the Committee made this very difficult decision for 2013.

The Region 4 Committee has decided not to hold the 2013 AQHA Region 4 Championships. The Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio did not have any available dates that did not conflict with other shows throughout the region.

The committee also explored the option of moving the show to another facility, but again, there were conflicts on all available dates.

The Region 4 Committee is still optimistic that the Region 4 Championships will resume again in 2014.
