Youth scholarships, trainer sales and roll-back prices on foal nominations are the National Snaffle Bit Association’s latest buzz.
Foal Nominations
Did you nominate your foal to the Breeders Championship Futurity only to hear that it was ineligible? In order for a foal to be eligible for the Breeders Championship Futurity, the sire had to be enrolled in the foaling year. Many foal owners assume that the sire has been enrolled only to later be disappointed to learn that their foal is not eligible. The National Snaffle Bit Association is offering an opportunity of significant savings if you have an ineligible foal. If you nominated your foal and it was ineligible, you received a refund on your nomination. According to the current rules, the nomination fees are as follows:
• $100 for a weanling if nominated by December 15 of the foaling year
• $150 by May 15 of the yearling year; $1,000 after May 15 of the yearling year
• $2,000 for 2-year-olds and older
If you have received a refund on your foal nomination, NSBA will honor the original nomination fee, provided the stallion has become eligible. If you have received a refund, continue to check the sire’s eligibility. A complete listing of eligible sires can be found at www.nsba.com under Programs-Breeders Championship Futurity-Stallions, or you may inquire at [email protected]. This could prove to be a savings of $1,000-$2,000!
Youth Scholarships
Every year, NSBA awards two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. The scholarship program is open to any NSBA member who will be attending an accredited college or university on a full-time basis for a minimum of 12 credit hours. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 1. For scholarship contest guidelines and applications, visit www.nsba.com.
Trainer Sale
NSBA is excited to announce that the 2013 Trainer Sale is under way! Participating trainers have generously donated one month’s training and board to NSBA to be sold to NSBA members for $500. The proceeds from this program are used to fund several NSBA programs. A complete list of available trainers and a purchase form is available at www.nsba.com.
