Due to an overwhelming response to the inaugural American Quarter Horse Association Novice championship shows, AQHA modified the event schedules by adding an extra day of competition. The 2012 SmartPak AQHA West Novice Championship and Nutrena AQHA East Novice Championship shows will now start on October 4 and continue through October 7 in Las Vegas and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, respectively.
With 1,946 entries slated to compete at the SmartPak West Novice Championship and 2,900 at the Nutrena East Novice Championship, AQHA has also added more show rings and judges to each show.

Competitors have until Friday, September 14, to scratch their entry from their respective Novice Championship if they are unable to make the trip with the additional day.
“AQHA understands that competing on October 4 is not feasible for all exhibitors,” said Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows. “We would love for all exhibitors to still go to either Las Vegas or Murfreesboro, Tennessee, but if that is not possible, competitors have until September 14 to scratch and receive a full refund. Our goal in adding the day was to keep people from competing too late into the evening and to have a schedule that could accommodate shows of this size. We were so excited with the response and hope people see this as a positive move. ”
If competitors wish to scratch from one or more classes at their Novice Championship and receive a full refund, they should contact their respective show manager via email.
