AQHA World Show Sale Specifics Announced

For the first time, the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show Sale, held in conjunction with the AQHA World Show, will be managed by AQHA.

The sale will start at 10 a.m. on November 11 in the Performance Arena at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The sale preview will begin at 1 p.m. on November 10 in the Performance Arena. The AQHA World Show Sale is sponsored by AQHA Corporate Partner Markel Insurance, and Markel provides 24-hour fall-of-the-hammer coverage to sale consignments.

A maximum of 200 horses will be accepted into the sale, with a goal for each discipline category of 45 halter, 85 rail/pattern/all-around, 25 speed event and 45 reining/cattle-event horses. The deadline to consign horses to the sale is August 1. The consignment form can be downloaded here.

Other specifics concerning the sale:
• The consignment fee is $600
• The commission rate is 5 percent of the sale price with a minimum of $250
• There will be a penalty for selling a horse before it goes through the ring
• Results will be posted about 15-30 minutes after a set of horses has gone through the ring
• Sale order will be assigned randomly. The consignors of multiple horses will draw slots randomly, and then use the slots that they draw as they wish.

Part of the goal for 2012 is to set a standard for horses consigned to the sale. The AQHA World Show Sale Committee, comprised of AQHA members who are industry leaders in their disciplines, will be in charge of evaluating and accepting horses consigned to the sale.

“Only horses that exemplify the criteria set by the committee will be accepted into the sale. The committee wants to give buyers the dream of finding a World Show prospect at the sale,” said Jeff Tebow, AQHA World Show Committee chairman. “This sale is about quality, not quantity.”

The committee members will be analyzing a horse’s performance record, pedigree, dam and sire performance records, conformation and athletic ability. The committee may use submitted photos and videos to critique would-be consignees.
