Rodrock Candids from Dixie Nationals in Jackson Mississippi

The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show was just held February 13th through the 19th on the State Fairgrounds in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the premier event of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association. With an average audience of over 4500 people, Freestyle Reining, held on Friday night, is the most crowd pleasing class and demonstrates the great physical ability of the American Quarter Horse.

According to Congress Queen Courtney Sturgill, the class sizes were huge and at least thirty percent up from last year. The novice amateur classes seemed on average to have the largest classes where the Novice Amateur Pleasure had an impressive number of entries (50). The halter classes also had great classes sizes and held WCHA Futurity classes. The trade show had nearly 100 vendors and there was also a huge turnout for the freestyle reining and sale.
Amateur exhibitor Jill Voss and One Hot Drama Mama were unanimous winners in the Amateur Western Pleasure, and she said the show was fabulous besides the weather.
“It was in the 40’s and raining and windy,” Voss says. “The show pens were warm though – so lots of places to warm up. The stalling areas also stayed relatively warm. We were in the middle of the barn though – so I imagine the end stalls were cold. Despite the weather, (which was basically just like spring in Iowa – but the southerners were freezing), I’m definitely going back. Fabulous shopping, very friendly people, and big classes.”
