Better Than Ever: Joan Schroeder and Blazing Hot

Joan Schroeder of Schroeder Ranch in Gainesville, Texas, has a passion that has motivated her to ride through life for years…and it all began riding western pleasure horses when she was a child. Three decades ago, woman rarely competed successfully in western pleasure events, but, that only spurred Joan on.

At the same time Joan was winning in the western pleasure arena, she also believed that breeding quality bloodlines and characteristics would improve the pleasure horse breed. Blazing Hot’s dam, Tahnee Zippo, was the first Zippo Pine Bar daughter to be bred to Hotrodders Jet Set and that cross produced three champions in a row–Hot N Spicy Me, Blazing Hot, and, lastly, Prettiest Jet Yet.

Blazing Hot was foaled out by Joan at the ranch and was trained solely by her and her former husband, Robbie. Blazing Hot was the first western pleasure stallion to have won the Congress and/or World Show in his two, three and four year-old year consecutively. He is also the only horse to ever win World Championships in Junior Western Pleasure and Western Riding, and this was accomplished on the same day at the 1996 AQHA World Show.

“Blazing Hot has broken records as a pleasure horse sire in my opinion because of his bottom line–three generations of great mares that produced great offspring. No other stallion in the industry can state that today,” Joan says. “We all know good mamas are imperative in raising good kids.”

Joan adds, “He is a great sire at 20 years of age that is still sound, healthy and strong; I receive calls from veterinarians and breeding stations all over the country that marvel at the quality of his semen,” Joan told GoHorseShow.

Joan is known for breeding, raising, and training many champions including Blazing Hot, Hot N Spicy Me, Prettiest Jet Yet, Born To Be Blazing, A Slow Burn, Hot Lopin Louise, Sure Am Hot, I Like Hot Chips, As Shes Walkin Away and the list goes on and on….

Recently, Joan made some wise investment deals including selling Born To Be Blazing and also working with a new client, Director of Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Jud Heflin, who recently came over to the Quarter Horse world from the paints. Heflin bought two outstanding futurity prospects including, Wearing Hot Pants, and also a full brother to Born To Be Blazing, Born Oso Hot, who will be shown in the Maiden three year-old events with World Champion trainer Scott Suggs in the saddle. Suggs brought his training and sales operation to Schroeder Ranch more than a year ago which has proven to be profitable for both parties.

“The Heflins came with Scott from the paint world, and they are anxious to grow big and buy the best prospects,” Joan says. “I am enthusiastic about Blazing Hot up-and-coming offspring, and I urge anyone looking for a prospect to please come by the ranch.”

In an amazing feat–the 20 year-old gorgeous bay stallion, Blazing Hot, is one of only two stallions to have offspring that have earned more than three million dollars in futurity earnings. This multiple world champion and Congress champion sire also had the highest selling yearlings the past two years in the AQHA World Salebration. In 2011, the Wilheim Family Trust from Shalfont, Pennsylvania purchased Blazingly Classic for $65,000, and in 2010, the Dempze family purchased Hot Lady Born Lopin for $100,000. Joan initiated and named the 2010 World Salebration where her Born To Be Blazing and Blazing Hot yearling offspring averaged $35,000.

Blazing Hot has sired champions in every major futurity including two horses that won $100,000 at the Reichert Celebration, and, he also sired the 2010 Congress Masters Champion, A Slow Burn who is out of Born Lopin. The 1992 bay stallion by Hotrodders Jet Set and out of Tahnee Zippo has three offspring that have won the Reichert Signature Three Year-Old Celebration Maiden Class including, As Shes Walking Away, Blazing Hot Cookies, and Sundancing Blaze. Blazing Hot is also the sire of Sure Am Hot who won the Reichert Two Year-Old Class as well as being at the top of the NSBA list of money earning horses with $152, 249.55.

And his impressive sire accomplishments continue….Blazing Hot is an AQHA leading sire of performance winners, and the stallion is the All-Time Leading Sire of Money Earners for NSBA. He was inducted into the NSBA Hall of Fame in 2010. His get has earned over 40,000 AQHA points with a total of 719 performing foals.
