The kids have gone back to school and that can only mean one thing...the
Congress will be here before we know it! In 2011, it also means another
thing...the Reichert is in Ft. Worth. With those two shows on the
horizon, the
arrival of September signifies the beginning of the toughest stretch in
the horse show schedule. Our digital magazine, GoMag, is there to
showcase print ads from the top exhibitors, horses and businesses in the
country.
Anne Wilson of Dallas had lowered expectations coming into the 2011 Adequan Select World Championship Show. She had reason for her pessimism: Her horse had been injured for
four months; she had only been riding him for three days; and on one of
those days, he bucked with her. Her biggest goal was to maybe – maybe – defend her showmanship world championship title from 2010.
Seventy two year-old select exhibitor, Betty Watt, is not your average grandmother of five. This busy lady uses an iPad, and is riding
horses while most people her age consider golf a strenuous activity. Betty wasn't sure whether she would make it to the Select World this year due to an accident that fractured and displaced her pelvis, but, she was determined to make it to the show, and she did!

We are very pleased that Susie Johns of Paradise Valley, Arizona will be
reporting for GoHorseShow.com during the AQHA Select World Championship
show. In
2009, with the help of her trainers Jim and Deanna Searles, she and
Majestic Scotch won the Western Riding and were reserve
in Western Pleasure on their way to winning the Select World All-Around
Title.
She simply focused on the pattern. Laurel Champlin has been determined to win a Select world championship in hunt seat equitation with her big gray gelding Skys Blue Eyes, aka “Skyler.”
"We are all falling apart at this age," Select Exhibitor Linda O'Brien says and laughs when talking about being a cancer survivor and wanting to still show at the Select World this year. "By this time in people's lives, most have had to overcome obstacles and illness to do what we love. We definitely appreciate things more and realize that the time we have on this earth is precious and fleeting."
A winning team takes home another championship in hunter under saddle. Together, Must Be A Detail and Kerry Papendick of Rapid City, South Dakota, have now earned two world championships and one reserve world championship in hunter under saddle at the Adequan Select World Championship Show.
Mary Lou Searles had a 'game on' pattern in the western riding finals. As Mary Lou Searles went into the ring August 31, her granddaughter told her, “Game on, Lou Lou.”
GoHorseShow talked to several trainers, youth advisors, show managers, and region directors about what they are doing at a local level to entice new youth members. Find out what other groups are doing, and please let us know what is working in your part of the country. We would like to spread the word!
