Ohio Quarter Horse Director, Elizabeth Gorski, reported that top hunter under saddle rider, Gigi Bailey fell ill during the senior hunter under saddle this afternoon at the AQHA World Show and had to be assisted by paramedics immediately following the back-up. Riding Gorski’s horse, On In Five, a bay gelding by Coats and Tails and One Sweet Asset, Gigi reported later that she had experienced symptoms of dizziness and acute breathing distress. Gorski reported that the incident was so serious that it was absolutely terrifying to everyone who witnessed the event.
Gorski added that Gigi has had a grueling schedule recently between judging, travel and showing commitments, and has been pushing the envelope. In spite the serious nature of the incident, Gigi’s focus according to Elizabeth, was finishing the class as to avoid disqualification.
After running tests at the hospital, doctors reported that Gigi was suffering from fluid in her lungs, but that all other tests appeared to be within the normal limits. She will be kept overnight for observation and plans to return home to DePere, Wisconsin tomorrow. Although her exclusive concern was for the well-being of her trainer and good friend, Elizabeth commented that her horse remained unbelievably calm during this otherwise very tense situation and ended up placing a very respectable 11th in the class thanks to his calm nature, and Bailey’s brave effort.
GoHorseShow.com would like to extend our prayers and best wishes to our good friend, Gigi Bailey, in wishing her a very speedy recovery. Results for the Senior Hunter under Saddle can be found at aqha.com.
