AQHA has made adjustments to multiple policies pertaining to its five world championship shows.
The following changes to show-related policies and rules have been approved:
- Effective immediately and retroactive for all past world shows, all finalists will have that designation added to their horse’s record in the AQHA database. Previously, the policy had been to only record a designation to the records of horses in the top 10, as well as world champion and reserve world champion.
- First-, second- and third-place finishers in AQHA-approved classes at affiliate-owned shows (single or combined circuits) that have at least 7,500 entries will now have that accomplishment added to their horse’s record.
- The 2012 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show qualifying points will remain at their 2011 levels, and the 2012 Adequan Select World Championship Show qualifying points will remain at their 2011 levels prior to them being lowered as a result of the EHV-1 outbreak.
- Amateur eligibility Rule 403 was amended to allow individuals that are 65 years of age, who have not trained a horse in the previous five years and are willing to give up their judge’s card to immediately be eligible to compete as an amateur exhibitor, provided that they have not judged in the previous 12 months.
- The English subcommittee has further defined and clarified the purposes for hunter under saddle, working hunter, hunter hack, equitation over fences, equitation on the flat, jumpers and pleasure driving.
“The AQHA Show Committee and its various subcommittees work diligently year-round to make the showing experience accessible and enjoyable for all members,” said Tom Persechino, AQHA executive director of competition and breed integrity. “These changes and/or clarifications are a result of that work.”
