Picturesque Del Mar, California was the setting for the 2011
Sun & Surf Circuit held May 19-22.
Known for its laidback atmosphere and beautiful scenery, Clay
MacLeod’s show was once again a success. The show was slightly effected by the EHV-1 outbreak as some barns chose to stay home.
According to new California resident, Lauren Blankenship (who also took all of the great candid pictures), “There are SO many things to do in Del Mar! It was my first time going and there are plenty of wonderful restaurants and shopping areas to explore. Not to mention the beach isn’t far away at all either. Our group went to Cardiff-by-the-Sea for dinner one night at Ki’s Restaurant and it was amazing. We passed a few dog beaches on the way too, so it’s a great show for horse show people to go to especially if they have dogs because of the dog beaches.”
Blue Ribbon provided trophy saddles to five lucky all-around
champions; Youth, Amateur, Select Amateur, Novice Youth and Novice
Amateur. Additionally, Woods Western
gave $500 gift certificates and circuit awards were silver buckles.
Susan Wilson won the Select Amateur saddle and really enjoyed the show. “The show schedule was great, the weather perfect (not too hot or cold)
and the people there were happy and friendly. Great prizes as usual,
top level horses and riders, and just an all around good time. Clay and
his crew put on a great show every year!”
New this year was the “60+ Super Select Award” given to the overall
high point 60 year old and over exhibitor in the Select Amateur classes. Additionally, circuit awards were given
to select amateur exhibitors who were 60 years old or “better”.
Judges for the show were Tim Finkenbinder, Larry Little,
Kendra Weis, Dan Trein, Gretchen Mathes and Pierre Brierre.
