Alexis Eldridge and Paige Stawicki, both competitive riders in APHA youth 14-18 events, met while showing with Scott Suggs Show Horses. Traveling from horse show to horse show, the two have become an inseparable pair in and out of the show arena.

Paige, a 16-year-old Texas native, is a junior at Argyle High School. Aside from horse showing, Paige is also a Junior Varsity Football trainer for her high school’s team as well as a VIP host at Texas Motor Speedway. Horse showing has been a part of her life since she was young; she started as a 9 year old in walk-trot. Her family purchased and she began showing HR Zip Me, fondly known as “Speck,” in December of 2008. The 2005 grey overo gelding, by Zip Me, won Reserve World Champion titles in the 2-year-old Western Pleasure in 2007 and the Western Riding Sweepstakes in 2008, both with Scott Suggs. “Speck is the love of my life, and I am forever thankful for Harlene and Russell, and Scott for this surreal opportunity,” says Stawicki.

The 2009 APHA Youth World Show will be Speck’s debut as a youth horse. “I am so grateful to have such loving and supportive people in my horse life. I know they are there for me one stride at a time.” Her mother and father, Bev and Tom, and her older brother, Taylor, unconditionally support her.

Alexis, 19 years old, is originally from Arizona and is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma. She equally divides her time between college life in Norman and riding in Pilot Point. Alexis’ showing career began in 2005. In March of 2007, her parents bought her Shes Blazing Hot, affectionately named “Scarlet.” She is a 2003 bay tobiano mare by Blazing Hot. “Scarlet is one of the most amazing parts of my life, she is the best teammate I could have ever asked for,” says Eldridge. Scarlet, a three time world champion, won the 2006 Bridleless Western Pleasure, 2007 Junior Western Pleasure, and 2008 4&5 year old Western Pleasure Sweepstakes, all with Scott Suggs.

This World Show will be Alexis’ final appearance as a youth rider. “I am so blessed to have such an amazing family, and I just know my mom is still with me. No matter where I go, in and out the arena, she will always be by my side.” Alexis’ mother, Judy, who was also an avid rider, passed away in April of 2008. Her father, Andy, and her grandparents, John and Cecil, proudly support her, and hold the title of her “number one fans.”

The girls have developed an indefinable bond with their horses and each other. “It’s our love for horses that brought us together, and we know that no matter what, we will always be the best of friends.”
