NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund Licensing Program Pays $121 Per Point

The National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) introduced the new Stallion Incentive Fund (SIF) Licensing program for horses of all ages starting in January, 2008. The new program, which is similar in structure to the AQHA Incentive Fund and the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association’s Breeders Incentive Fund, had an extremely successful first year and people are starting to see dividends.

The new Stallion Incentive Fund (SIF) Licensing program is explained on NSBA.com with the following:
“All licensed horses are eligible to earn money for NSBA points earned in dual approved classes. Payout for the dual approved points will be based on the purse of the donated and sold SIF sires for the competition year. Estimated payout for the first year of the program was $80 per point and the actual payout was $121.38 in 2008. The Stallion Nominator will receive 10% of the earnings of offspring in the Dual Approved payout. The Foal nominator will receive 10% and the owner at the time of competition will receive 80% of the earnings in Dual Approved payout.”

“We had the same stallion incentive program for 15 years and it definitely needed new stimulation,” said Stephen Stephens, 2nd Vice President for the NSBA. “The new Licensing program has been a huge success and we have sold over 2,000 licenses since December, 2007.”

According to Stephens, “People really wanted this program. Much like the AQHA Incentive Fund and the Kentucky Breeders program, it makes the horses enrolled more valuable and easier to sell.”

People who enrolled horses in the new Licensing program have started to receive their checks. Vickie and Ronnie Kent licensed three of their horses in January of 2008 after Stephen Stephens urged them to do so at the Arizona Sun Circuit. “We really didn’t know how much it was going to pay but it definitely got us showing in more NSBA dual-approved classes”, said Vickie Kent. “We show in pleasure, western riding and trail anyway so we thought we might as well enter the NSBA classes too!”

The Kents are certainly glad they signed up. They recently received a check for $9,284.40 for their 2008 earnings on their horses Ill Be RV Radical, the NSBA High Point Junior Trail horse and Wonit Ona RV Version, the NSBA High Point Six & Over Open Trail horse. The Kent’s check was the largest the Licensing program paid out for 2008.

“What a wonderful surprise it was to get that check in the mail,” said Vickie. “We are very grateful for the NSBA, Diane Chilton for nominating Radical Rodder, Stephen for telling us about the program and Michael Colvin for showing our horses in the Open classes.”
