“Go First, Be First” – Angela Fox and The Company You Keep Win Gold in Amateur Showmanship

“Go First, Be First” appears to be a trend at this year’s AQHA World Show. Several competitors who have gone first in the finals have won and brought home the golden globe.

That’s exactly what happened in the Amateur Showmanship with Angela Fox and The Company You Keep.

This duo is just off winning the Congress in the Amateur Showmanship for the second year in a row.

This win is also Fox’s first AQHA World Championship Showmanship title, and she did it in impressive fashion scoring in the high 90s on the majority of the judges’ cards.

“This is the one class I have always wanted to win, and the stars definitely aligned today for us,” Angela, who has been third at the World Show twice before, told us right after her win. “This has been an incredible year, having a baby girl, winning the Congress in the Amateur Showmanship, and now winning the AQHA World Show.”

Fox adds, “Having to go first today didn’t give me time to over analyze my pattern,” Angela said. “It might be the lucky spot to go first in this class. Amber Cunningham and Shannon Brown went first in the finals the years they won.”

Angela’s trainer, Charlie Cole of Highpoint Performance Horses told us that Angela’s success comes from her being in sync with her horse. “She had really good setups, and we knew the setups would be the most important parts of the pattern and she nailed them. She works very hard at this class, and I just come in to do some fine tuning. Her hard work and practice definitely paid off.”
