About the Cover

Our World Show GoMag cover features Shelby Ratliff and her gelding, Willy Has Potential. This duo has an impressive Congress win streak, showing together twice and bringing home two Congress Championships. In 2014, just a few days after buying Willy, they won the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle at the Congress. This year, due to school scheduling conflicts, Shelby was only able to show in the Non Pro Limited Maturity Hunter Under Saddle, which she won in a dominating performance.

“I figured since I won the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle last year; it would be fun to show in something different,” Shelby said. “The Maturity Limited Finals were all in one day, so I knew I could pull it off. This is also my one year mark of owning Willy and celebrating that with a win was exciting.”

Shelby, who has ridden with Highpoint Performance Horses since she was seven years old, shares her favorite things about Willy. “He is always happy doing his job no matter what. He always gives one hundred percent in the warm-up and arena and he is happy doing it. I’m also able to do other events with him which makes things very fun.”

This team now has its sights on the AQHA World Show where they will be showing in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle. Trainer, Beth Case will also show Willy in the Senior Hunter Under Saddle. “A fun fact is that Beth’s first World Championship was on my horse 10 years ago in the Senior, and this year she’s showing Willy in the Senior,” Ratliff reveals. “I’ve learned a lot from Beth over the years. Do exactly what she tells you and never say no. She’s a very hard worker and expects you to work just as hard.”

Ratliff adds, “I’m very honored to be part of Willy’s career and have the support system that I do. Thanks to my Mom and Dad and everyone at Highpoint. He is a special horse, and I’m glad that we are a team.”
