Since it’s inception in 1998, Aspen Grove Ranch (aka AGR Breeding) has
been dedicated to producing the finest western pleasure horses in the
industry. Judy Ovitz’s gorgeous facility is located in the beautiful
Upper Ojai Valley, just south of Santa Barbara. Judy took time to bring
us up to speed on all the great things going on at Aspen Grove,
including how much fun she is having showing this year!
Judy, please tell us a little about Aspen Grove Ranch?
JO: I began Aspen Grove Ranch, AGR Breeding, Inc. in 1998. It was, and still is, my passion and dream to produce the finest western pleasure horses in the industry. To achieve this we’ve carefully selected broodmares who were top producing, superior point earners and matched them with the most talented stallions in the industry. It has been a true labor of love and I am so proud of our accomplishments to date!
In 2007, Aspen Grove Ranch’s “moms” had winners at Congress, The Reichert Celebration as well as the NSBA World Show. We were on our way! Today, we continue to hone our broodmare band so as to have the very best potential “moms.” We couldn’t be more pleased with our foal crops to date. And, our 2010 foal crop looks to be our best yet!
Will we be seeing you in the show pen this year?
JO: Yes, yes, yes! I’ll be showing my ten-year-old grey gelding, Awarded Investments in Western Pleasure as well as my bay gelding, Just Zip By Me, who is also ten. In addition, our resident trainer Dan Prouhet will be showing both horses in Senior Pleasure. Recently at the West Coast Circuit I won Circuit Champion in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure on my new horse, Just Zip By Me and at the Show Me the Money Burbank Show, I got first under both judges and Circuit Champion in Novice Amateur Western Pleasure. It was very exciting!
You guys have raised some really nice babies who have gone on to be very successful. What current prospects do you have for sale?
JO: Currently we have several two year olds and approximately eleven 2009 babies for sale including several colts and fillies by stallions such as RL Best of Sudden and Only In the Moonlite. You can get information on these prospects on our website at www.aspengroveranch.com. We have videos on most of the babies and sale horses there as well.
Have you had any babies at the Ranch so far this year?
JO: So far for the 2010 season we have three new fillies and one colt. (Pictured here) is a filly by Certain Potential out of Be My Zippo who has over 275 AQHA points and has multiple Superiors. We’re also very excited about one of our hunt seat fillies out of Reserve World Champion, Shes A Charlie Too and by These Irons are Hot. It is Shes A Charlie Too’s first first foal and she’s a beauty. We call her “Legs”!
Thank you Judy and we wish you great success!
