If exhibitors are looking to qualify for the 2012 AQHA Novice championship shows through a top-10 placing at an AQHA regional championship show, the Region Eight Championship is their last chance. The Region Eight show takes place June 22-24 at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, Kansas.
Region Eight comprises Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. For regional championships, an exhibitor may apply for a hardship so he or she can compete in a region in which he or she is not a resident. The application for hardship must be submitted to AQHA on or before the pre-entry deadline of the regional championship the exhibitor wants to attend. The application must then be approved by the chairman of each region involved.
“Exhibitors have three options for how they wish to qualify for the Novice championships,” noted Patti Carter-Pratt, AQHA executive director of shows. “First, they have the option to qualify through their affiliate. Exhibitors can also compete at 20 shows to qualify, or they can place in the top 10 in a Novice class at an AQHA regional championship.
“The great thing about competing at a regional championship is that not only are you earning yourself a trip to either Murfreesboro, Tennessee, or Las Vegas, on October 5-7, but you’re also vying for the chance to win great prizes at the regional championship,” added Carter-Pratt.
Before competitors haul to the Region Eight Championship, they need to check their eligibility for the event.
