Lacy Watson Wins Gold in Horsemanship

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate 17 year-old Lacy Lynn Watson and HF Tahnee Too of Goshen, Ohio for winning the gold at the AQHYA World Championship Show in Horsemanship. The bay mare by One Hot Krymsun and out of famous dam, Tahnee Zippo, closely edged out Hannah Brown and Zippos Petite Prince by three points.

The pattern featured all the major crowd pleasing maneuvers including a flying lead change, extended lope, spins, and extended trots. Watson and her six year-old mare had a gorgeous ride featuring smooth transitions and a phenomenal body position showing off her obvious talent in the saddle. Watson was also first place intermediate champion in the Horsemanship. This year was the first time Watson had made it out of her split in the horsemanship at the World Show.

“I thought the finals pattern was really challenging and completely different from the prelims. In the first go, the pattern was all about circles but in the finals, it was about going back and forth in straight lines. The first spins to the right lead to the extended lope back to a slower lope before the stop was really hard,” says Watson, who has only been a team with her mare for a year. “In the preliminaries, Tahnee was really nervous on the rail so I was concerned about the railwork in the finals, but we practiced it a lot and she did great today.”

Lacy’s trainers are her parents, Shane and Jamie Watson, and she would like to thank them for all the help and support. “My mom is mainly the one that works with me and it is fun most of the time, but it can be hard separating the mother and daughter aspect of our relationship. I try really hard to listen to what she says,” Lacy says laughing.

The seventeen year-old says that Tahnee is a big diva but a real sweetheart. “We give her several treats a day and she always nickers when someone goes by her stall. I’m lucky to have found her.”

Watson and Tahnee have the Trail finals in the morning but she plans to celebrate her win at Cattleman’s Steakhouse tonight! GoHorseShow congratulates Lacy on her outstanding pattern and performance.
