NFR Wrap Up with Charlie Cole–We are all headed home from our first NFR experience. There were highs and lows but a great experience for Michele, Slick, and Skye who got to make several nice practice runs and everyone else on our team. Slick and Michele ran the fourth fastest time ever at the Thomas and Mack and showed everyone that he can do it! It was heartbreaking to see those four barrels fall, especially when Slick only had hit about five total barrels all year, luck just wasn’t on our side. We are excited for 2014 , Michele and Skye are leading the standings already and we all aren’t going to be rookies this year–we can barrel race smarter and have two equally talented horses. A huge thank you to Michele’s family for the sacrifices they made and to Jon E Suttle for his care, protection and hauling of Slick and Michele. Thanks to everyone for supporting Michele and Slick, you have truly been amazing… Happy Holidays from all of us!
ROUND 10, Saturday, December 14, 2013–Slick and Michelle had some tough luck and knocked a barrel over in the last round.
Round 9, Friday, December 13, 2013–“This has been a roller coaster ride at NFR,” Cole states. “Slick had a great first and second barrel and just barely hit the third but it fell over. One more night left, and we haven’t had the best of luck but Slick is showing everyone that he can run with the best. Hopefully, tonight will be the night he wins the go around!”
Round 8, Thursday, December 12, 2013–According to Cole, “Slick smoked his first barrel again tonight and was
flying. A slip and a stumble at the second barrel cost him a little time
but he was still fourth in the round and moved up to places in the
average.” Practice tomorrow at 7am and two performances left. Congrats to Sherry Cervi and Stingray on another round win. “We are excited because we have Stingrays only foal, Stinger, a coming yearling colt,” Cole states.
Round 7, Wednesday, December 11, 2013–According to Cole, “Slick made a flawless run at 13.48! But the girl that is on fire is Taylor Jacob who beat us by .01 at a 13.47. Taylor is such a nice girl and great friend of Michele. We had planned on switching to Skye tomorrow but who knows. It’s all Michele’s call. We are having a blast and Slick has such a huge fan club. Thank you Slicksters!”
Round 6, Tuesday, December 10, 2013–Slick and Michele had some tough luck and knocked the second barrel over tonight. Hopefully the duo will have better luck tomorrow night!
Round 5, Monday, December 9, 2013–Michele and Slick had some bad luck tonight and knocked down a barrel, but there is still five more rounds to go!
Round 4, Sunday, December 8, 2013–Cole said that Michele and Slick had another strong run on Sunday. “It was his best first barrel so far. Michele is riding very smart and we are very happy that Slick has run three 13s in a row!
Round 3, Saturday, December 7, 2013–Slick and Michele had a solid run on Saturday evening and ran a 13.95. “He got a little past the first barrel, but he still ran fast and placed seventh,” Cole states. “He is currently sitting second in the average.”
Round 2, Friday, December 6, 2013–-“Wooo–hooo!” was Charlie’s response about Michele and Slick’s run tonight. They ended up second tonight with a really great run! “Can’t wait until tomorrow night!” Cole states. GoHorseShow also found out that Jason wore his luck World Show socks tonight and he says that he will be wearing them the next few rounds!
Round 1 Thursday December 5, 2013—“Round 1 in the books!” says Charlie Cole. “They had a good run with just a small visible at first. Please vote for Michele for best dressed, vote as many times as you want.”

$5,000 Jerry Ann Taylor Award for One Lucky Barrel Racer at the 2013 WNFR!
Jerry Ann Taylor was a daring trick rider who brought a style, glamour and spirit to the rodeo arena. Following her passing in February, 2012, a fund was started, by her husband Dutch Taylor, her mother Jo Matthews and other donors, to reward cowgirls who carry the same sense of style. The WPRA is pleased the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame has collaborated with the us to offer this prestigious award at the 2013 Wrangler NFR as well as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Finals. A $5,000 cash award will be given to the Best Dressed Barrel Racer at both rodeos.
Rodeo (NFR). The Top 15 were finalized on September 30th, and he currently ranks third in the world standings with earnings of over $140,000.
Slick is owned by Charlie Cole and Jason Martin of Highpoint Performance Horses, and the 2007 black stallion is currently being run by Michele McLeod of Whitesboro, Texas.
“It
is incredible that Slick even made it to the NFR,” says Charlie Cole,
who is justifiably excited about Slick showing in Vegas starting Thursday evening.
“He wasn’t able to do any of the fall or winter rodeos because he had
knee surgery and his first run wasn’t until April.”
The NFR showcases the talents of the
nation’s top 15 money-winners in each event as they compete for the
world title. The 10-day event is always held the first full week in
December in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“He looks great,” says Cole when asked how he has been warming up at the show. His debut is tonight and Charlie will be providing us with updates throughout the show! Here is a picture of Slick after his morning ride on Thursday.
