UPDATE: Brad Ost Back in Saddle at Congress to Win Senior Trail

UPDATE: We would like to congratulate owner Bonnie Sheren on her horse, Chex Me Im Cute on winning a tough Senior Trail! Brad wasn’t even sure he would be able to show in the class. Way to go Brad! He beat out 160 other exhibitors. Check out the feature we wrote earlier this week below about him being able to show at the Congress despite his recent ATV accident.

Following the ATV accident that left Brad Ost with multiple rib fractures and breaks, spinal fractures, a collapsed lung and punctures in both lungs and a collapsed colon, very few people thought he would be at the Congress–let alone show. On September 20th, he was involved in a serious accident where he was rushed to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Sherman, Texas. After an intense few weeks in the hospital, Ost was released on October 4th to recover at home.

Despite his severe injuries, surprisingly, on Monday, Ost was approved by his doctor to show. On Tuesday, just 10 days after being released from the hospital, he did just that with a Top 10 finish in the Junior Western Riding with UF A Certain Star for owner Courtney Archer. “I thought we had a good go,” Brad told us right after the class. “Yesterday was the first time I have ridden him in a month and he took really good care of me. I feel pretty good right now; I just have to take it slow and not lift anything or do anything too strenuous.”

When GoHorseShow asked him if he was surprised that he was able to show–he said, “Well, I was optimistic but I wasn’t sure what the doctor would say–but he told me that I couldn’t re-damage anything–I just have to deal with the pain and soreness.”

Ost said he is going to play the rest of the classes by ear and see how he feels. “I believe I’ll be able to do the western pleasure classes, but I’m not sure about the Senior Trail, but it is a week away so we will see. It may be too hard for me to do the up and down movements and turns in the trail.”

Brad adds, “I’m just extremely thankful that I am able to do what I love because it could have been taken away from me in an instant, and I’m really glad to be back in the saddle.”
