About the Cover
At just twenty-one, Siena Holyoak of Morgan, Utah, has already achieved what many amateurs dream of. Gracing the cover of the November AQHA World Show Issue of GoMag with her beloved mare, Wrap Me In Red (VS Code Red x Gifted Invitation), or Evie, is a milestone that celebrates not only their show-pen success, but also the deep bond they share.
“I’ve had Evie for around three years now,” Siena says. “She’s so special to me and my family. She’s one of the sweetest and kindest horses I’ve ever been around.” The gentle red mare is known for her soft eye, big heart, and quirky love of sour gummy worms. “She’s such a careful horse,” Holyoak adds. “She loves to be challenged – the harder the course, the better she is. Trail is definitely her favorite class. She’s curious and brave, and she floats over the poles.”
This year, Siena and Evie added several standout achievements to their resume, including winning the Amateur Trail at the NSBA World Show and earning Reserve Champion honors in Amateur Equitation at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. They also placed 7th in Trail, 8th in Horsemanship, and 12th in Showmanship.
Siena credits her trainer, Carly Parks for shaping her growth as a rider. “Carly is one of my favorite people,” she says. “Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. She pushes me to be my best every day and has such a positive attitude. Plus, she’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”
Fresh off winning the Senior Trail at the Congress, Carly and Evie will be vying for back-to-back championships in the Senior Trail in Oklahoma City. “When Carly won the Senior Trail last year at the AQHA World Show, it was so special,” she says. “To see her and Evie do it again at Congress this year was amazing. It just shows how talented and willing Evie is.”
Looking ahead, Siena hopes to continue improving with Evie and plans to add a new horse for the green non-pro events. But, no matter what comes next, Evie will always hold a special place in her heart. “She has the most heart and try of any horse I’ve ever been around,” Siena says. “She truly is one of a kind.”
