About the Cover
We are very happy to feature sixteen-year-old Eleanor Ott and her all-around horse Hez Rainey Made (Tater) on the cover of the June issue of GoMag. Under the guidance of Beckey Schooler, the 2023 AQHYA World Champion team is looking forward to competing this summer with the goal of making the finals at the AQHYA World Show.

Hez Rainey Made is an 8-year-old gelding by Machine Made and out of the great mare, Rhapsody In The Rain. In 2023, they were crowned AQHYA World Champions in the 13 & Under Trail and NSBA World Champions in the 13 & Under Showmanship. They also won the AQHA 13 & Under All-Around Honor Roll title with top-10 placings in five events.

Last year, Ott and Tater competed in their first year of the 14-18 Division and excelled in the Hunt Seat Equitation where they were Top 5 at the AQHYA World Show and Reserve Champions at the NSBA World Show. “Equitation is my favorite class,” she says. In addition to Equitation, “we want to keep doing the showmanship, horsemanship, and trail with him. We are always trying new things, like a new bit, a new method to get him to turn faster…it’s never-ending to get better.”

Now a sophomore in high school, the Sand Creek, Michigan native is in her second year of 14-18 competition. They recently returned from The Madness where they were Reserve High Point Champions in the 14-18 division.

Ott also has a new horse this year, Southern Circles (Tommy), who is by Its A Southern Thing. “We bought Tommy as a two-year-old. He had never been ridden, but we saw him and had to have him,” Eleanor told us. “I put the first ride on him after we brought him to Beckey’s and I did most of the work to break him with Beckey’s coaching.”

In just their second show together, Ott and Tommy won the 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle at The Madness. This was quite an accomplishment given that she had done most of the training herself.

Eleanor, who wants to train horses after college, is fortunate to live close to her trainer. “I get to ride every day at Beckey’s as I live 15 minutes from her, and my school is two miles from her. I love riding the young horses. It’s fun for me to see them progress and go on to the show. I will ride anything. My friends take me to rodeos and barrel races; they let me ride their horses. It’s so fun for me.”

Best of luck to Eleanor, Tater and Tommy in all of your upcoming endeavors!
