About the Cover

Youth exhibitor Estelle McParlan of Fennville, Michigan and her horse Amarillo By Moonlite are featured on the April Level 1 Championships issue of GoMag. Estelle is currently a freshman at Saugatuck High School and looks forward to riding on a NCEA Equestrian Team in college.

“I’m so thankful for the support I receive from my teachers and the administration while juggling horse showing, soccer, and my classes. I have always wanted to do well in school and have loved showing horses since I was young. That is all possible because my school works with me closely so I can reach all of my goals.”

This duo had a stellar year last year that culminated with Congress Championship titles in the L1 13 & Under Western Riding, Equitation, and Hunter Under Saddle along with the L1 13 & Under and L1 Youth All-Around honors at the Congress, which Estelle says was even more rewarding as it was only their second show with new trainers, Show Horses by Shannon.

“It has been amazing working with Shannon (Walker), Hannah, and Spencer, and I am so grateful for their support and guidance.”

The ever-gracious Estelle also has some kind words for her four-legged horse show partner. “Laredo (Larry) definitely has a special personality; sometimes he wants to be sweet and cuddly, but other times, he needs his space bubble. Either way, I just adore him. He always tries his hardest in whatever class he is in and he’s so talented at what he does. His favorite treat is black licorice and he will perk up from a mile away for some.”

This is McParlan’s first year in the 14-18 division and one of her goals for this year is to make the best of her last Level 1 Championship show. “Of course, we love to bring home the hardware, but my main goal is to have good rides and work well together to further prepare for the World Shows and Congress later this year.”

Estelle’s friendships in the horse industry are also very important to her. “My best friend, Emma DeJong and I love hanging out at horse shows, going to dinner, and spending our free time together.”

She would also like to give the “biggest” thank you to her parents for all they do for her and her horses. “None of this would be possible without them and I’m so incredibly grateful for them.”

Best of luck to Estelle McParlan, Amarillo By Moonlite, and everyone associated with this great team throughout the year.
