About the Cover

Featured on the cover of the 8th Annual Fashion Issue of GoMag is the talented and stylish Michelle Sloan of Dallas, Texas. Sloan and her horse, Lazydayz R Here Agin (Linus) show in the AQHA Amateur All-Around events. A self-professed ‘fashion nut,’ Michelle admits to being a longtime admirer of high-end fashion.

“What I appreciate most about fashion is that it is timeless,” Michelle told us. “I enjoy the enduring styles from Chanel, St John, Hermes, and YSL and I have quite a bit of fun blending their older pieces with newer styles in my day-to-day looks.”

Sloan adds, “If I had to pick one favorite designer, I would say Pierre Balmain. Originally, he had studied architecture, which is evident in his design concepts. I love nothing more than a power shoulder.”

Clearly, Michelle’s passion for fashion doesn’t end when it comes time to step out of her everyday life and into the show pen. The show jacket Michelle is wearing on the cover is by Holly TaylorDesigns. “I think it bears a strong resemblance to a Balmain Paris design, with bold structural lines, a perfectly tailored fit, and an aggressive shoulder to bring together the entire aesthetic. So, I get to carry that over into the show pen too, which I love.”

Under the supervision of Kristin Layher for the past ten years, Michelle says that Kristin often knows her better than she knows herself. “She is forced to wear many hats. Sometimes she is my therapist, sometimes she is my trainer, but when it comes to fashion choices, we are always on the same page.“

This year’s plan for Michelle and her ten-year-old, Lazy Loper gelding includes focusing primarily on western riding and horsemanship, while continuing to show in the hunter under saddle and hunt seat equitation events as well.

“My mother, Alice Brock purchased Linus in 2019 knowing he would be the perfect fit for the all-around events for me,” Michelle recalls. “My mom is always right. I want to thank her and my step-father, Greg Brock for being so supportive of my passion. It is rare to come across parents who still endorse their daughters’ obsessions. I am fortunate on so many levels, but mostly for having such a patient and understanding family.”

Best of luck to Michelle and Linus at all the majors this year.
