Oregon Quarter Horse Association 2021 Oregon Classic is a Wrap

NEWBERG, Oregon April 14, 2021. The 2021 Oregon Classic just finished up a successful show in the new time slot: The first full week in April at the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene, Oregon.

“Our Classic show was a huge success this year. We hosted an eight-judge, two-circuit format and had over 8,000 entries during our six-day show,” said Adrianne Potwora, President of the OQHA Board of Directors.  “We know how important it is to our members, exhibitors, trainers, and industry partners to be able to show. Safety is our highest priority, and our show management team worked tirelessly to ensure a safe show environment for all. We kicked off our week with The Equine Chronicle Pizza Party, where we handed out pizza as folks were getting settled.”

The Oregon Horse Center’s benefit is that the arenas and stalls are under one roof, but the weather cooperated, and we enjoyed the sunshine.  We also hosted a mimosa bar one morning and created a little “liquid sunshine” of our own. Thank you, Amanda Jackson and Samantha Floyd, for sponsoring the mimosa bar!

The Oregon Classic had classes and opportunities for everyone. We awarded 18 saddles, 12 being Harris Saddles and six being Caliente Saddles. Class Circuit winners received a belt buckle, and the reserve was awarded a jacket. Our sponsors were generous, and we had awards for various placings, which included Circuit Show Pants by Irideon, gift certificates to Custom Collars, and boot giveaways by The Boot Barn, to name a few.

With the new Classic dates, we changed the OQHA Futurities we offered – ranch horse versatility and performance versatility futurities – congratulations to Chrissa Westbooks and Ty Elrod for their respective wins.  We had a 5 and under Hunter Under Saddle Futurity, and the honors went to Shannon McCulloch. CJ Fisher won our trail futurity, and the 3-year-old non-pro and 3-year-old open western pleasure futurity went to Shelly Germaine and Kristy McCann, respectively.

Our future looks bright when you look at the number of youths we had competing. The classes were large, and the Youth Champion of Champions, the ultimate competition for top placing youth in Hunt Seat Equitation and Horsemanship, was awarded to Ava Blyth. Our Hoppy Horse Derby had 11 teams and raised a record amount for our youth attending the AQHA Ford Youth World Show.

Thank you to everyone who came to Oregon Classic! We look forward to seeing you all again at Classic in 2022. Show information, candid photos, and results can be found at Oregon-Classic.com.
