About the Cover – The Vital Signs Are Good Legacy Lives On

Together, Kristen (Glover) Galyean and Vital Signs Are Good made history. And now, Galyean is proud to see the VSAG legacy carry on through her sons and their offspring.

The Glover Galyean Partnership (Wesley and Kristen Galyean with her parents, Jim and Debbie Glover) owns and stands two sons of the legendary Hall of Fame mare known as Lucy to her friends and fans.

Both stallions are five-time Congress Champions out of the 31-time Congress Champion Vital Signs Are Good. Each inherited special gifts and traits from their dam and both continue her legacy now through their offspring.

VS Code Red is sired by Blazing Hot. Shown by Kristen, he was the first to win the Congress Open, Limited Open and Non-Pro Two Year Old Western Pleasure shown by a non-pro rider.

“Waylon (VS Code Red) reminds me of Lucy in his kind disposition and his famous flat front leg that he definitely inherited from her and is passing it to his offspring,” Kristen said. The lift he carries through his shoulders and his red roan color are very much his mother.

VS Flatline is sired by Lazy Loper. The bay roan with the sexy face and forelock was an instant crowd favorite when he won the Congress Open and Non-Pro Two Year Old Western Pleasure, followed by the AQHA World Championship the next month.

“Kobe (VS Flatline) was just so strong and everything came so easy to him,” she said. “That body control came from Lucy. He was never in a hurry and was always extremely laid back. Lucy was that way. He complements mares that are hotter and his foals are highly intelligent and trainable.”

While Kristen had great success and enjoyed every minute showing both Waylon and Kobe, their demand in the breeding shed moved them both to stand full-time.

Combined, these sons of Lucy have sired $1.65 million in offspring earnings and 29,699 AQHA points, plus multiple championship titles and show honors in AQHA, APHA, NSBA and color breed associations.

The Next Generation

In 2017, Kristen Galyean rode through the Gateway of Champions at the AQHA World Show aboard VS Lady In Red, a red roan daughter of VS Code Red. They would leave the arena as the Amateur Western Pleasure World Champion, ten years after Kristen won the same title with Vital Signs Are Good, at what was their last world show together.

Reserve World Champions in 2018, Kristen and Lady would take the gold as World Champions in 2019.

It seemed full circle at the 2020 AQHA World Show when Kristen and Lady won the Amateur Western Riding. Their 238.5 score broke the World Show record for that class set by Kristen and Lucy 15 years before.

Another record-breaking mare, Cool Cruzen Lady by VS Flatline, marked a 232 at the AQHA World Show in Junior Western Riding, as a three-year-old in 2017. She returned in 2018 to repeat the win, breaking her own record score again with a 235.

The Code Reds and Flatlines are certainly destined for western pleasure success, with three Congress Masters Champions, multiple Congress and World Champions. Of course, the natural progression to western riding is prophetic.

They are also proving themselves as versatile athletes, excelling in all around events in open, amateur and youth. KM Flat Out The Best, by VS Flatline, won the inaugural Pleasure Versatility Challenge at the 2018 AQHA World Show. The following year it would be a VS Code Red to win – Snap It Send It, the crowd favorite.

Vital Lines Are Red is another Code Red that started her career winning a two-year-old pleasure futurity at the Congress and has now joined the Galyean family competing with young Gracelyn Galyean in the small fry walk-trot classes.

The success and excitement of their breeding program has added another family tie. Kristen’s brother and his wife have joined the family business venture with the 3G’s Partnership, created with the purchase of world champion mare KM Suddenly So Easy last summer. In addition to continuing her show career, “Penelope” has joined their group of elite mares to cross on VS Code Red and VS Flatline.

Kristen showed her to win the 2020 AQHA Amateur Western Pleasure World Championship, their first time showing together.

The following week, the mare won the Senior Western Pleasure World Championship by unanimous decision, shown by Casey Willis. That clinched her Triple Crown title as World Champion in Two Year Old, Junior and Senior Western Pleasure.
