VIDEO: Late Legendary HOF Sire Impulsions to Offer 20 Limited ICSI Breedings to the Public

“I told Brad and Kelli McCamy that I would try my best to live up to his reputation and help continue his legendary breeding career several more years,” Joe Mizzi told us.

The late, legendary sire, Impulsions is back in business. AQHA & APHA Breeder Joe Mizzi of Painted Plantation, LLC recently found out through one of his trainers, Shane Dowdy, that the owners of the late Impulsions, Brad and Kelli McCamy were interested in selling his frozen semen. Mizzi jumped at the opportunity and bought it all. Now, Mizzi is offering breedings through ICSI to a limited book of 20 outside mares.

“It is a great opportunity to breed to a leading sire that is only one of three horses to have ever been inducted in the NSBA Hall of Hame in the breeding, as well as show category,” Mizzi shared with us. “I believe Impulsions will be able to cross with many modern bloodlines, including Machine Made, Certain Potential and Zippo Sensation mares, which will help diversify the gene pool.”

The cost to breed one mare is $3,000 and each additional embryo is $1,500. Mare owners will have two years to use them and will not have to use the embryos simultaneously.

Mizzi is also now an agent to Impulsions, LTD, so that he can sign all the breeder’s certificates, registration papers, etc. This helps mare owners because they can deal directly with Joe for everything related to breeding to Impulsions.

“I told Brad and Kelli McCamy that I would try my best to live up to his reputation and help continue his legendary breeding career several more years,” Mizzi said.

World and Congress Champion and sire, Impulsions was euthanized in 2011 due to complications associated with laminitis. The 2004 NSBA Hall of Fame inductee (as show horse and sire) and 1987 chestnut stallion by The Invester and out of Randados Rosa was bred by Wilson Quarter Horses of Joshua, Texas. This western pleasure stallion, affectionately known as “Papa” was buried in the front yard of the McCamy’s near their flag pole.

Impulsions was the 1989 World Champion in the Two-Year-Old Snaffle Bit and earned over $35,000 in all-time futurity earnings. He was also Champion of the Three Year Old Derby at the All American Quarter Horse Congress (winning all three go-arounds). Impulsions was then retired, having won all major titles by the end of his three-year-old year.

Then owner Kelli McCamy said that Impulsions was a once-in-a-lifetime horse that made her and her husband’s career in the horse world. “He was a very smart horse and knew his job,” Kelli recalls. “He was known for his amazing strength and impulsion behind and his beautiful head. His name fit him perfectly. He did everything so natural that all I had to do was stay out of his way.”

McCamy adds, “Impulsions helped jump-start our career, and he helped us make a living in this industry for over 24 years. Many trainers never have the opportunity to find a horse like him, and we were fortunate.”

As a sire, he had over 254 point earners in all divisions combined, with a total of his get earning over 22,000 total points. This outstanding stallion also sired ten World Champions and seven Reserve World Champions. His foals have also earned $393,890.20 in Incentive Fund earnings and over $679,000 in futurity earnings.
