GoMag: August NSBA World Show Issue Online Now

The August 2020 issue of GoMag is the biggest August issue in GoMag history... a true testament to the resilience and fortitude of our industry.

We are extremely proud to bring you the August 2020 issue of GoMag. With over 200 beautiful pages, it is the biggest August issue in GoMag’s 13-year history. This is an incredible testament to the resilience and fortitude of our industry and to the love and dedication of horse show people – many of whom will be competing at the prestigious NSBA World Championship Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Despite the recent cancellation of the AQHA Select World and the All-American Quarter Horse Congress, two of the most important horse shows of the year, our industry has rallied to the call. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this the biggest and best August GoMag ever. From the advertisers to the trainers, graphic designers and photographers…we are incredibly grateful to be able to showcase the strength of our industry.

Best of luck to everyone competing in Tulsa, or wherever this crazy path in 2020 takes you.

About the Cover

Select Amateur Joe Whitt of Louisville, Kentucky, graces the cover of this year’s August issue of GoMag. Whitt is showing Suddenlee Single (Sissy) at the NSBA World Show in Performance Halter Mares, Showmanship, Horsemanship and Western Riding under the guidance of Ryan Cottingim Show Horses.

Joe also has a new partner, Stone Code Sober (Charlie), who he will be showing in Tulsa in the Limited Three-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure under the guidance of Brian Baker. Baker and Charlie are just off winning the VS Code Red/VS Flatline Incentive and brought home a big $23,500 check in the Novice Horse Class at The Madness.

“I feel very fortunate to be part of the ‘Blue Crew’ and work with Ryan and Mandi,” Joe says. “Brian and Dawn are also great to work with and the perfect program for my young horses to go to before they move into the all-around classes.”

In late June, early July, Whitt also showed at the Big A and Stars and Stripes, where he was the Stars & Stripes Select All-Around Amateur and Big A Circuit Champion in the Level 3 Select Showmanship and Reserve in the Amateur Performance Mares.

“Sissy is a cool partner. She does her job well and is very giving,” Joe told us. “If you tell her what she wants, she gives, but she is sensitive, so you need to be on course when you are showing. Charlie is very laid back and easy to work with and show. He loves to eat and is lazy. I love both because ten minutes of longing is enough for them at the shows.”

Whitt told us that this year has brought several challenges due to the COVID-19 outbreak. “But challenges can create opportunities, and I think it gave us a break and helped us realize how fortunate we are to be able to show horses,” Whitt states.

”I am blessed with a great partner, David Brinkley, who is very supportive of my love of showing. We have made great friends through the horses, especially in the Select Division…and we all like to drink wine,“ Joe adds with a laugh. “Life is pretty great!”
