Dr. Sherry Johnson of Equine Sports Medicine Awarded Two Prestigious Research Grants

Dr. Sherry Johnson of Equine Sports Medicine, the practice that serves as the official veterinarians of the AQHA World Shows, has recently been awarded two impressive research grants from The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.

Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate at Colorado State University was named the 2019 EQUUS Foundation Research Fellow for her research into new approaches to tendon injury rehabilitation in horses. The $5,000 grant is awarded annually to a doctoral candidate or resident who has made significant progress in the field of equine health care research.

Johnson was also awarded the 2020 Storm Cat Career Development Award, which is a $15,000 grant designed as an early boost to an individual considering a career in equine research from the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.

“These awards are special to me for so many reasons. Not everyone understood my desire to complete a PhD program following my residency and board-certification in Equine Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation,” Johnson states. “The reality is that orthopedic injuries we consistently see on the front lines of horse shows and then later in the rehabilitative setting inspire me to dig deeper and try to come up with better solutions for our equine athletes.”

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate Dr. Sherry Johnson on her hard work and passion for our equine athletes.
