The Platinum division of APHA’s Breeders’ Futurity has seen a steady increase in enrolled stallions and foal earnings. With a 40% increase in Platinum-enrolled stallions for 2019, the Platinum Breeders’ Futurity classes at the 2019 APHA World Championship Show promises prime competition and an opportunity to win huge paychecks. More than $160,000 is up for grabs to eligible foals and their non-pro exhibitors in the World Show’s five Platinum classes:
- Weanling Mares
- Solid Paint-Bred Weanling Mares
- Weanling Stallions
- Solid Paint-Bred Weanling Stallions & Geldings
- Weanling Geldings
“It’s beyond exciting to witness yet another increase in enrolled stallions this year,” APHA Director of Breeders’ Trust/Breeders’ Futurity Matt Arias said. “The increased number of stallions means more weanlings are eligible to cash in and earn sizable payouts at the World Show—we’re seeing a 35 percent increase in potential earnings in the Platinum-division futurity classes for 2019. With this kind of growth, the future of the Platinum division is looking bright.
“Stallion owners have been extremely supportive and receptive to this program. They have continually aided in the program’s growth, and APHA thanks them for their continued participation. APHA’s latest sponsor, Kelly Herd Jewelry, is also a supporter of this world-class futurity and has donated $500 gift certificates to the winners of these classes.”
A program unto itself, the Platinum division of the Breeders’ Futurity is an elite weanling futurity that allows non-pro exhibitors to show in futurity halter classes. Foals are eligible for the Platinum division by the stallion owner paying a nomination fee—however, both the stallion and the mare of the foal must be nominated for the foal to be eligible. In 2018, 15 stallions and 79 mares were enrolled in the Platinum division. With 21 stallions and 94 mares enrolled for 2019, the 2019 Platinum Futurity class entries saw a 30 percent increase.
