Kimes Kandids and Rundown from 2019 Harbor Classic

Check out pictures from the Harbor Classic that was held in Ludington, Michigan.

The Harbor Classic, held July 1-7, is the most anticipated event each year for the Michigan Quarter Horse Association. As an annual contender on AQHA’s Top 10 horse show list, 2019 didn’t disappoint with classes reaching up to 30 entries. The numbers were fantastic and the fun was never ending.

Included in the activity-packed week was a Tommy Sheets trail clinic, both a bouncy horse race and a dog race to benefit the MQHA Youth Association, Mike Huntoon’s famous bar service and social with Fenn Valley Winery, a Euchre tournament and McCarthy Warda Performance Horses classic margarita party with a concert by special guest Kali Indiana.

MQHA President Kathy Christensen says that The Harbor Classic is her favorite horse show. The Mason County Fairgrounds, in Ludington, is a wonderful venue for camping and showing.  The showbill allowed for evening activities so I could go to town, the beach or stay at the fairgrounds. There were so many fun things going on each night. I look forward to this show every year. This is my summer vacation and I enjoyed my time last week in Ludington.

The princess contest was also held during the show. Young girls compete in a stick horse horsemanship class and have to complete an interview with a panel of judges.

Congratulations to the 2019 MQHA Princess Myah Chaput and Jr. Princess Quinlan Bogue. The 2019 MQHA Queen, Kate Clapp, helped organize the contest and was there to present the crowns to these two deserving young ladies.

MQHA would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone that contributed to the silent auction by donating items and by purchasing. The proceeds of this fundraiser totaled $12,000 and are being donated to our own Colt Prime, who was recently involved in a life-threatening accident. Your support of this MQHA family through your generous donations has touched us all. We will continue to send all of the uplifting thoughts and prayers to the Prime family who are longtime members of the association.

The Harbor Classic has become known as a family-friendly, summer treat for all those that attend. For many consecutive years, it has been voted as MQHA’s best show and there’s really no question why.
