We Ask Exhibitors: What Character Would Your Horse be in a Holiday Movie?

Holiday songs, the smell of fresh cookies and family gathered around the kitchen table. The essence of Christmas is upon us. Everyone loves sitting on the couch snuggled with a warm blanket and holiday movie.

We all have our favorite characters in holiday movies – everything from The Grinch to Buddy from the film, Elf.  And just like the characters in the film, our horses have equally vibrant personalities.

Along with holiday cheer and grateful actions, do not forget to show thanks to your equine partner this Christmas. Our horses work tirelessly to help us achieve our goals.

In the spirit of holiday fun, we asked exhibitors what character their horse would play in a holiday movie.

Emma Brown – I think the best way to describe Brett is as Santa. Just as Santa brings so much joy to everyone on Christmas, Brett brings that same joy to us every day. He’s also like Santa because he’s always being a good boy and getting us prizes, so it’s like Christmas all the time. We are so thankful for Brett and the love and happiness he brings to our family.

Savannah Hauer – My mare, Natural Order (Pru), would be Elsa from the Disney movie Frozen. She’s very reserved around other horses, but once she’s out of her stall, she loves everyone. She’s also beautiful, just like Elsa. Now, my gelding, Touch My Invitation (Toby), would for sure be Buddy the Elf from the Christmas movie, Elf. He’s all kinds of goofy. I can imagine him seeing Santa and having a complete come apart.

Lauren Stanley – Rooster would be Rudolph. His goal in life is to please those around him and to come through in a time of need. Everyone loves Rudolph just as we all love Rooster.

Beckie Peskin – So, I technically just sold my boy Niko (Dont Skip Will), but as far as a character from a Christmas movie, my friends and I decided he would be the horse version of Miss Piggy from the Muppet Christmas movie. He likes to be spoiled and treated like a diva. He’s totally motivated by food. While he’s charming, if he doesn’t get his way (aka you aren’t opening the treat bag quickly enough), he will pin his ears and get all “Hi-yah!” Of course, it’s all a show, because he has zero mean bones in his body and wants to be loved.

Parris Rice – Nate is the leading man in all the Hallmark movies. He’s handsome, he shows up and saves the day (or Christmas), everybody loves him, he has a cute dog, lives happily ever after. He’s about as perfect as they come.

Ashley Roach – Sara (Midnight Dreamer) would most definitely be the Ghost of Christmas Present played by Carol Kane in Scrooged, which also happens to be one of my favorite holiday movies. Both very girlie, sweet and oh so lovable, but have no problem serving you up a big old slice of humble pie from time-to-time. Sugar, extra spice, and all that’s nice; that’s what my little gray mare is made of.

Paige Wacker
– Dudley would be Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation. He always wants to please those around him and tries to do no wrong. On top of it all, Dudley is hilarious and loves those that love him. Just like Clark, Dudley loves his family regardless of their quirks. I think that’s what makes me love Dudley even more. He forgives me when I’m impatient, let’s me know when I’m wrong and can make me smile or laugh on my worst days.

Hayley Freeman –If my horse, Suddenly Best Man (Logan), were a character in a holiday movie, he would be Buddy from Elf. He can be quirky and get himself into trouble, but like Buddy, he does not have naughty intentions. Both of them have a strong sweet tooth, and Logan will happily eat anything. He especially loves one of the Elves’ four main food groups: candy canes.

Jamie Radebaugh Devoe – Dez would be Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa. He is so feisty. He has this, “I don’t give a crap” attitude, and he has to be the center of attention. If you let your guard down for a second, he’ll bite you kind of like how Bad Santa would rob you. He has a hilarious personality.

Erin Larson Girolamo – Im Ever Certain (Peanut) would have to be Frosty The Snowman because he restored the magic, happiness, and joy into showing for me at a time when I desperately needed it. Peanut is kind, gentle and loved by all. I’m just thankful he doesn’t melt in warm weather. Huntified (Frankie) I would say would be Sven from the movie, Frozen. He can be a little clumsy and dorky, but he has a big heart and tries to please everyone. And he loves snacks. Uptown Never Sleeps (Troy) would be Buddy from the movie, Elf. He is 110% all the time. He is a curious horse and is continually looking at things, and I think his mind is always in motion. He is the newest horse in our bunch. He is sweet and naturally affectionate.

Lauren Carnahan – If my horse were in a Christmas movie, he would be a mix of the Grinch and Clark Griswold from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. He would be the Grinch because he can sometimes be crabby, but once he knows you, he is the sweetest. He would be Clark Griswold because he gives everything he does 110% as Clark did with his family on Christmas.

Janae Walker – Cameron Diaz’s character, Amanda, in The Holiday. She’s beautiful, good at her job, a little goofy, kind-hearted and fun to be around. Also, some of Daisy’s moves on the longe line are pretty similar to Cameron’s dance moves when she’s having a pajama dance party after drinking a bit of wine.
