NSBA World & Reserve World Champion Makin Me Willy Wild to Stand at North Farm in 2019

“We are going to be standing Makin Me Willy Wild at North Farm in 2019 to a limited book of mares,” Debbi Trubee excitedly announced at the NSBA World Show. “Geoffrey has had a stellar summer riding with trainer Kenny Lakins and was just crowned Reserve World Champion in the Three-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure. Geoffrey started the NSBA World Show being named World Champion Performance Halter Stallion with Tim Finkenbinder.”

This gorgeous black stallion is GoHorseShow’s August GoMag cover boy and is owned by Debbi Trubee and Roger Landis of North Farm. We talked to Trubee more in-depth about Geoffrey to find out about his bloodlines and background. Makin Me Willy Wild is sired by Winnies Willy and is out of Wildly Available. Wildly Available is called “Georgia” because that’s where the couple bought her. The mare had crossed beautifully with Invitation Only and they thought a cross with Winnies Willy would be equally as nice.

North Farm named all her babies with a G so, in 2015, they had Gina, George and Geoffrey who came along last that year. Georgia is sired by Pass The Asset and out of a daughter of Dont Skip Charlie. Wildly Available is the dam of Congress and World Champions, Only Rave Reviews, Avalablebyinvitation and She Had Me At Hello.

Makin Me Willy Wild is currently being ridden by Kenny Lakins in the three-year-old futurities and Junior Western Pleasure. “Geoffrey just keeps getting better and better,” Lakins states. “He has such an amazing presence. He is great minded, very trainable and a pleasure to be around. Debbi Trubee and Roger Landis are also great to work with, and I couldn’t ask for better owners.”

We asked Trubee when she knew that Geoffrey was special. “We knew Geoffrey was extra special right from the start.  He was the perfect made baby, and when he loped next to his mama, it would just make your jaw drop.  The fact that he’s stunning and black was icing on the cake.”

Another huge bonus about Geoffrey is that he is excellent minded. “Geoffrey is absolutely the kindest horse we have ever been around.  We castrate about everything around here, but Geoffrey was never a problem and was always so respectful on following the rules. There isn’t a time when you walk up to his stall that he doesn’t greet you with his ears forward and he’s happy to see you. He is the same way when you get him out to saddle him, no matter how long the show is, each time you slap the saddle on him, his ears are up and he’s just happy to go another round.  He’s so natural when he goes around and it’s just effortless for him.”

What about his personality? “He’s a chicken at heart,” Trubee states. “He takes everything in the literal sense and so wants to please. When we brought him up in his yearling year to get his video and pictures, it didn’t take but a week in the arena for him to learn to float around and hang his neck out in front of him. That’s one of those things that either they do, or they don’t.”

Trubee adds, “We are truly overwhelmed with the response we’ve had for Geoffrey, and we’re looking forward to seeing some beautiful babies in the future.”
