About the Cover

Kathryn and Cody Mitchell of Oak Spring Ranch, located in Vacaville, California, are developing quite a reputation in the showing and breeding industry. Their beautiful ranch is 82 acres of rolling hills near Napa Valley. Cody has added a new foaling barn, breeding area and is currently working on building a lab for embryo transfers. The couple has also taken on a few outside mares for breeding and foaling out and hope to expand that side of the business.

Currently, Kathryn has three top show mares, Good Money Machine, One Hot Sultry Night and Im Callin Dibs, that are showing this year.

Good Money Machine (pictured right) is a grey mare by A Good Machine and out of AQHA Multiple World Champion, Huntin For Money. They show her in trail, pleasure and performance halter. Her first baby is by Only In The Moonlite, whose pretty face is featured on the June cover of GoMag.

“Don’t tell the other two girls, but she is my favorite,” Kathryn says, referring to her grey mare. “She is extremely fun to show, crazy talented and sweet.”

One Hot Sultry Night, a double registered mare by Good N Sultry, is leased to Miranda Mitten through the AQHA World Show. Her first baby is a yearling filly by RL Best Of Sudden that is being prepared for the longe line. Under the guidance of Kellie Hinely of Trendsetter Performance Horses, they plan to show her at the upcoming Summer Classic in Oregon and NSBA World Show.

Their new mare, Im Callin Dibs (pictured left) is a double registered mare by Ima Cool Hotrod. They will be showing her in the three-year-old western pleasure and trail events. This year, their primary goals are showing her in the three-year-old trail futurities at the NSBA World Show and at the Congress.

“Cody has worked hard this year to expand the ranch and our breeding facility,” Kathryn states. “We have deepened our roster of really great mares and this year’s foal crop is awesome. It is a testament to how hard he has been working the last few years. I can’t wait for these babies to grow up and we can start showing them off!”
