Beloved, Select Amateur Horse, Absolutely For Me, Passes

From the owner, Mary White of Flower Mound, Texas

Absolutely For Me, aka ‘Milo’ was humanely euthanized after a brief illness.

It is so hard to put into words what this horse meant to me. When I bought him at the 2008 World Show Sale, I knew that I had found a good horse. But he was a yearling, and I was not sure that he would be “the one.” In fact, I was sure that “the one” was somewhere in my future.

The line from The Wizard of Oz, “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire, I should not look farther than my backyard” holds true here. My once-in-a-lifetime horse came home with me from Oklahoma City that day.

He wasn’t an easy horse, and he had his quirks, but he made me a better rider. No matter what, I could always count on him to perform when I needed him to.

Milo had a unique personality, and he was not afraid to show it. He liked things to go a certain way and would let you know when you were not following “his plan.”

He loved peppermints and naps. Naps were a vital part of his routine. He also liked to be pampered. A good currying and once over with the vacuum were favorites.

Elizabeth Knabenshue says it best, “What made Milo so special was that he always knew when it was time to show, and would rise to the occasion. It was always so much fun to watch you show him, and for me to show him. He will always hold a special place in Will and my heart.”

There are so many memories I could fill pages. Some that stand out are showing and placing at our first AQHA World Show. NSBA Reserve World Champion in Equitation. Being a Finalist in the Level 3 Equitation finals. His Top 5 results with Liz in Senior Hunter Under Saddle (level 2). Being Reserve Champion at the Congress in Select Equitation on my birthday. His winning Level 2 Performance Halter with Liz.

I would like to thank my trainers and surrogate parents, Will and Elizabeth Knabenshue; Alan and Josh Donnell and the staff at La Mesa; Adam Mathews, who kept his feet looking superb; Brendan Brown, who found and started Milo for me; and Alisa Bernhard Proefrock, who picked up where Brendan left off.

There is so much I could say, but to put it simply, Milo was a dream come true for a crazy horse girl. I was so blessed to have him in my life, and although he is no longer here physically, he will always live on in my heart and memories.
