Industry Mourns the Loss of All-Time Leading Hunter Under Saddle Sire Last Detail

We are saddened to report the passing of legendary leading sire, Last Detail, due to complications associated with laminitis. He was 27. The 1991 bay stallion was by Jetaway Easy and out of Lilly La Belle and bred by Clifton Throneberry of Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the time of his passing, the legendary stallion was owned by Larry and Linda Whitaker of Rogers, Arkansas.

Last Detail is still the All-Time Leading Sire of Open, Youth and Amateur Hunter Under Saddle point earners.

“We were very thankful to be chosen as a retirement home for this legendary leading stallion,” says Taylor Hanes, who also gave renowned pleasure stallion, An Awesome Mister a forever home a few years ago. Hanes Performance Horses is located in Shelbyville, Tennessee. “Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined having him on our farm.”

Hanes continues, “Thank you to the Whitaker family for making this possible and thank you to so many others; Ron Horn, June Warren, Nancy Sue Ryan and Masterson Farms who paved the way to make this stallion a huge success.”

Last Detail’s owner, Linda Whitaker recalls, “He had so much heart. When he won the Congress in the Junior Hunter Under Saddle, it was his first big show. He went into the finals and threw a shoe as he trotted into the gate, and they didn’t want to alarm Nancy Sue, so no one told her until after he won the class.”

The bay stallion was discovered and trained by Ron Horn and June Warren of Yukon, Oklahoma, and later purchased by the Whitaker family in 1994. He stood the majority of his stud career with Ron and June and later moved to Masterson Farms.

After that, a decision was made to semi-retire Last Detail to Hanes Performance Horses. Taylor Hanes is thankful to the Whitaker family for allowing him to be a small part of this legendary stallion’s legacy for nearly five years. Taylor has the last small crop of Last Detail offspring at his farm. Last Detail was buried alongside another legendary stallion, An Awesome Mister, who also retired at the Hanes Family Farm in Tennessee.
