December 2017 Holiday Issue of GoMag Online Now

The December issue of GoMag kicks off the holiday season and is a wonderful opportunity for our advertisers to wrap up the year. Many use this issue to highlight their success from the Congress and/or World Shows, to show appreciation to their customers or trainers, as well as generate business for the holidays. The December issue also kicks off the beginning of the 2018 breeding season and features many great stallions, including the gorgeous triple registered Living Large, who graces the cover of this issue.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all for yet another incredible year.  Thank you to everyone, including our wonderful advertisers and countless readers,  who helped make this past year so successful.  We wish you all the happiest of holidays!

About the Cover

The stunning 2009 AQHA/APHA/PtHA stallion, Living Large, draws attention wherever he goes. If you want to describe a “horse of a different color” in every respect, the sorrel overo stallion, owned by Cathy Corrigan Frank of Arizona, fits the bill.

“He is great minded and so easy to show,” says Kevin Dukes, his longtime trainer. “His oldest babies are four-year-olds and they are all talented, and most have minimal white which is ideally what we want.”

In his first foal crop, he sired APHA World Champion, Dancin For A Living and at this year’s NSBA World Show sale, he had the highest selling hunter type yearling, Living On My Assets, which sold for $27,500.

Aptly nicknamed “Shaq” after former NBA giant, Shaquille O’Neal, this multiple World Champion is out of the thoroughbred mare, Quit Staring, and by the late, World Champion sire, These Irons Are Hot. This cross makes Living Large a full appendix quarter horse with white markings. It also makes him eligible to be registered as a crop out paint and compete at APHA and PtHA shows. Shaq inherited his color from his mother, Quit Staring, who is a rare loud colored black and white thoroughbred.

Shaq has been very impressive in his short show career. He is a ten-time APHA/PtHA World Champion. In AQHA competition, he is a two-time Reserve Congress Champion in Junior Pleasure Driving, Reserve Congress Champion in the Amateur Pleasure Driving and an AQHA Reserve World Champion in the Senior Pleasure Driving.

We asked Cathy what she would love for the public to know about Shaq. “That he is kind, gentle and loved by all those who handle and spend time with him. He’s the most gelding-like breeding stallion I have ever been around. We are talking about retiring him from the show pen this year. Not many nine-year-old stallions are still getting hauled down the road and I’m so very grateful that he has maintained his sweet personality, even in adverse conditions like horse shows.”

Living Large will be standing in Weatherford, Texas with Kory Niswender. His breeding fee is $1,500. Please contact Kory at 817-304-2897 or Nan Cowin at 612-802-8376 for more information.
