2017 AQHA World Show Superhorse Named

During the past two weeks, the top exhibitors and horses from around the world competed at the 2017 Lucas Oil AQHA World Championship Show at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The 2017 Lucas Oil Superhorse Award is the top honor at the Lucas Oil World.

The Lucas Oil Superhorse title is awarded to the horse that earns the most points in three or more Level 3 events in three categories during the show. This year, 27 contenders competed to take home this prestigious award.

On November 16, BFR Igniting Sparks, owned by Beechfork Ranch of Weatherford, Texas, was crowned the 2017 Lucas Oil Superhorse. The 2009 palomino stallion by Shining Spark and out of Sliden Wright By was bred by G. Scott Gaddy of Clements, California. BFR Igniting Sparks was shown by Matt Koch of Douglas, Wyoming; Jeff Chapman of Union, Mississippi; Jay Lyn Wadhams of Pueblo, Colorado; and Dustin Rogers of Pueblo, Colorado. The team earned 51 points by earning the world championship title in senior working cow horse, reserve world championship title in senior heading and placed fourth in senior tie-down roping, ninth in senior ranch riding and aged stallions and was a finalist in senior heeling and senior reining.

BFR Igniting Sparks and his connections received $25,000 cash; a $1,000 gift certificate for Lucas Oil products; a specially embroidered blanket, courtesy of Horseware Ireland; and an original Lisa Perry bronze.

Snap Krackle Pop, who is owned by Twylla Lynn Brown of Perry, Missouri, earned the reserve Lucas Oil Superhorse title. The 2010 gray mare by RL Best Of Sudden and out of Brandys Silver Sheik was bred by Masterson Farms LLC of Somerville, Tennessee. Snap Krackle Pop was shown by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Kendra and AQHA Professional Horseman Blake Weis of Moberly, Missouri. The team earned a total of 32 points. Snap Krackle Pop won the reserve world champion title in senior western riding, placed fifth in senior trail and seventh in senior western pleasure. “Brandi” received a prize package that includes $10,000, plus a $1,000 gift certificate for Lucas Oil products.

Placing third was Dancin N The Dirt, owned by Natalie Vargo of Plain City, Ohio. The 2011 bay gelding by Hot N Blazing and out of Caught You Dancin was bred by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Leslie Vagneur Lange of Greeley, Colorado. Dancin N The Dirt was shown by Chuck Briggs of Azle, Texas, and Dawn Baker of Sunbury, Ohio. The team earned a total of 28 points with the reserve champion title in senior pleasure driving, third place in senior hunter under saddle and fourth in senior working hunter.

Placing fourth was Dual Patron, owned by Bobby Lewis of Overbrook, Oklahoma, and shown by Joseph Harrison of Overbrook. The 2013 buckskin stallion by Dual Spark and out of Look At Her Glo, was bred by Circle Star Land & Cattle Co. of Pontotoc, Texas. Dual Patron earned a total of 23 points and was the world champion in junior heeling, seventh place in performance halter stallions and a finalist in junior heading.

Placing fifth in the Superhorse race was Satin Lil Kat, owned by Shank Stephens of Hinton, Oklahoma. The 2011 bay stallion, by Hesa Peculiar Cat and out of Ripped In Satin, was bred by Yarenis Diaz and Alberto Gonzalez of Miami. Satin Lil Kat was shown by Steven Orth of Guthrie, Oklahoma, and earned a total of 23 points. Satin Lil Kat placed fifth in senior heading and senior heeling and 10th in performance halter stallions.

The third- through fifth-place Lucas Oil Superhorses each receive $2,500.
