Zippo Jack Bar Inducted into NSBA Hall of Fame

GoHorseShow would like to congratulate multiple world champion sire, Zippo Jack Bar (Zip) for being inducted into the 2011 NSBA Hall of Fame as a breeding sire. This 1983 sorrel stallion by Zippo Pine Bar out of Fair Eyed Jackie produced over 230 performance foals that garnered lifetime earnings of 21,603 points in all divisions, AQHA Incentive Fund earnings of $356,691.37 and National Snaffle Bit earnings of $294,140.28.

“Zip was before his time in movement and conformation,” Shelley Donovan said who helps run BSB/R11 Quarter Horses with her partners Hedy Levin and Kim Rotenberry. “He was 16.1, and he swung his hock and was flat up front. As big as he was, he could jog and lope slow. He could show today with the way he swung his legs.”

Zippo Jack Bar was purchased at the 1985 Congress after he was Reserve Champion in the Two Year-old Western Pleasure with Steve Heckaman. The Levin’s bought him from Charlie and Johnne Dobbs and Patti Brannon. Zip came home to Sturgis, Michigan where he remained until he passed away in 2009.

A few of his memorable get include: Hes Just Too Sharp, Shine My Zipper, Jacks Are Lucky Too, Sudden Inclination, Im Crystal Clear and one of BSB/R11’s current breeding stallions: Too Sleepy To Zip. He may even be more famous as a broodmare sire. His daughters have produced such greats as: A Certain Vino, Potential Diva, Rockin For Certain, Selection So Simple, Shes A Hot Straw, and Don’t Zip Charlie.

“We feel he is the epitome of the NSBA,” Donovan proudly told GoHorseShow. “He showed in early years of the NSBA and won. His kids have and will continue to show. Now, we will see his grandkids carry on the family in the association. They are a great fit into how the association has evolved. They can do all the events. It is an honor for others to recognize what we knew about him forever…he was special.”

This is BSB/R11’s third horse honored by NSBA. The others being, Dont Skip Charlie and Goddess of Love. “The three of us (Levin, Donovan, and Rotenberry) felt so blessed and honored to be a part of that great horse’s life. He wasn’t just a horse to us. He was one of our boys. We are thankful we have his son, Too Sleepy To Zip to help carry on his legacy. Through him our motto continues to this day…’the proof is in the kids!’”

BSB/R11 would like the public to know that they do have some frozen semen available from Zippo Jack Bar that they’ve used successfully, with hopefully a filly coming next spring out of one of their best mares.
